I wrote out why. That’s 6 teams - 3 for FH and 3 for football if each have freshman. Soccer and lax have 8 if they only have jv and varsity. Each has a boys and girls team. For those wanting additional fall sports, what would you even want? You realize some of these spring teams have to practice before school to get field space as it is. |
Girls tennis used to be in the fall |
This would not affect field space. |
Our fcps school has a hard time filling the JV team as is. We have a lot of cuts for baseball- freshman baseball team would work better for our school.

Girls and boys for any teams don't advertise to be the same season |
Should have said girls and boys teams don't have to be held in the same season. |
New poster here Ok so if you move boys or girls soccer to fall, then you are just switching the crowding to a different season, because they’d still need to compete with field hockey, football, and the Marching band for field space. Plus, it’s not just fairfax county schools that would need to switch-you’d need all of Virginia to agree to this. |
Do all sports have to be through VHSL or can they just be County wide? Can you have freshman baseball and soccer and not have it affiliated with VHSL? |
I tried skimming through this 244 page handbook but didn't specifically see...but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OxLAgeE0tBHCgcHBdYoMBDGepYL2fN7W/view I'd be surprised, even if they were "allowed" to have within their own district freshmen teams, if a county school system would want to take that on. There are private leagues where kids who don't make their high school teams can still play soccer and baseball. |
Do any kids want to do this? Mine has played soccer since kindergarten and she’s in middle school. It’s doubtful she would make the high school team since so many try out so her plan has always been to continue rec through high school. There are so many soccer rec options and the local rec option is all of the local kids anyway. |
NP here. It could open it up to having both a JV and varsity tennis team. I don’t think any team has fewer spots. Our school or all fcps schools? have one varsity team only. I know our school had only two seniors leave so there are only two open spots on the boys tennis team for all freshmen and other grades trying out. |
I’m not the poster you quoted, but… Not knowing which school your kids go to, or anything about tennis, I ask if court space is the only reason they don’t already have JV? Is there enough interest to field a jv team? Are there coaches for a JV team? Do other schools in your conference also have JV teams —because the team would need someone to compete against? Also, just because two seniors are leaving shouldn’t mean there are only two open spots. EVERY spot should be “open” and not guaranteed to any returning player. |
