Why is there no Freshman soccer in FCPS?

In the fall there is football (3 teams) and field hockey (3 teams). Am I missing any that use the field?

Seems like there is some space in the fall for teams still.

Goodness, where? How? Even using two fields, no. There is no space in the fall.

Soccer balls and related head injuries can permanently damage the brain.

The baseball and softball fields should be made available for fall sports practices. How many sports get their own field/gym for their sports?

Maybe at your school, but not all FCPS schools have multiple turf fields (McLean comes immediately to mind).

fall has field hockey and football- why is spring different with lacrosse and soccer?

That would tear up the ball fields.

So, it might be time for fake turf for those sports as well.

The other fields are shared by multiple sports. Shouldn’t softball and baseball share in that rotation?

50 plus talented freshmen get cut from baseball each year, far more than for soccer.

That depends on the school. Last spring, two different FCPS schools had over 175 boys try out for soccer, which means 130-140 were cut.

The marching band needs to get into the stadium to practice their routine. The band at our high school uses a parking lot that can be gated off for most of their practices (safety so cars don't plow them down) - they have the lot painted with the lines they need. But their competitions are held in stadiums and they need some time to get on the field.

In the spring, you also have track and field. They don't have matches every week at home like lacrosse and soccer do, but they can't practice in the stadium when a there is a home match. And I know there has been some concern of the lacrosse balls hitting the runners during practice.

I agree. Soccer is more popular than baseball or football.

I guess they don’t want to pay for it. When I was in HS (in NJ), we had freshman JV and varsity teams for every sport. I would support doing that here.

+1 Chantilly too. There is just no space available. It's a shame.

Asking 9th graders to play football vs 10th graders and sometimes 11th graders on jv- is not good for a majority of 9th graders. In other sports it will show up in the skill , but most times not the contact physically.

#s wise- can add 9th grade teams to soccer and baseball at our school- but don't have space. One soccer team has to practice off site- due to space. Adding 9th grade boys/girls would crush space- then add in games- would be a mess.

At our previous hs- in NY- we had 7/8th grade soccer, 9th grade, jv, Varsity- had 2 fields and played I'm the fall.
All sports had 4 levels.

If you wanted to add lower levels - would have to add facilities at middle schools to use. Or community fields.

They also don't want to pay for coaches, bus, or officials down here.

Our school is middle of the road- and plenty of kids get cut for soccer and baseball.

The baseball and softball fields are used for community use during the fall and winter- and the schools receive $ for their use. At our school field is available at 5pm.
Turf softball and baseball fields would be great- but not great for other sport use.

At our school, all fields are rented out for community use: soccer, field hockey and lacrosse youth clubs hold practices, not just baseball and softball fields. Those fields are unused from 3-5 pm in the fall.
