I went on Lexapro and my mother died. Thank you for the judgment.

Did lexapro shovel the food in your face?

Wow! My sister also gained weight on lexipro. It's like her choice was have panic attacks 24/7 or take this pill, be calmer and gain 25lbs in 4 months. The weight remained with her long after she stopped the lexipro. Until you've been there, you need hold judgement and listen to what people are telling you. Try to feel some empathy for them and gratitude that you haven't suffered in that way (so far).

I gained 25. I walked my dog. I exercised. That first spring of 2020 for about six months I cooked every meal the family ate and we ate all the foods we love, comfort foods. I cooked. I ate. I went into perimenopause. Even exercising i wasn’t moving nearly as much as I had pre covid (metro commute; more intense exercise at classes at gym three or four times a week). And we are a lot more sugar and fat than we normally would.

To the self-righteous angry lady (who I’m guessing is blowing off steam because her husband is cheating or her kids can’t stand her, or she realizes she’s excluded by her friends or whatever is making her full of hatred) I will say Covid changed my weight. I lost a lot of weight because my fear made it nearly impossible to eat. I also had lots of diarrhea. Odd because previously I ate when stressed. I completely contribute this to Covid.

Good luck to OP. Covid was a rough time and people coped in all kinds of ways.

You can’t spot reduce (unless you lose lipo). As you lose weight overall, your belly will shrink.

Op here and so sorry I posted here. I feel badly enough. Maybe I should go off lexapro. I am ashamed.

NP. Don't be ashamed, OP. Please ignore the rude, nasty person who felt it was appropriate to attack you. There are LOTS of people who are dealing with similar issues to you.

If lexapro caused your weight gain then sure, try another med. your op didn’t say that. If lexapro didn’t cause your weight gain, going off it won’t change anything.

Op don’t feel bad. After being skinny my whole life I also gained about 20 pounds the last 3 years. Part of it was covid but I think it was mostly hitting perimonpause. I also was on lexapro for a few months because I told my doctor I was feeling down and I think it accelerated the weight gain. I eat well and walk three miles a day and it won’t come off. It’s all concentrated right on top of my uterus below my waist line — I’m still super skinny through my upper torso and chest/collarbone. I think it’s clearly some weird hormonal thing. I also got an iud during this time due to incessant bleeding so I don’t know if that’s part of the problem. I figure I’ll keep eating well and keep walking but it is very discouraging, especially when trying to find pants that fit!

I’m on lexapro. Try again. And put the fork down while you’re at it.

Well, perhaps pop an empathy pill! No need to be mean to folks.

Thank you for admitting you know nothing about the human body and it's complex chemistry.

Is your body identical in chemical make up and response to inputs as theirs?

Let me add my voice to the others who say please don't be ashamed! I am often surprised by the level of acrimony leveled at those who post about their struggles to lose weight. It's bizarre and disturbing to see people choosing to weigh in not with empathy or helpful suggestions but with judgement and sometimes cruelty.

I'm so sorry that you lose your mother during the Covid years.

I agree that you might try a different medication, but it might be that Lexapro will work better than other medications for your anxiety.

As a post-menopausal woman who also gained weight in 2020-2021, I am finding that it's much harder to lose weight than it has been for me in the past. My mantra is "Slow and steady wins the race!" I focus on one pound at a time, and when I reach that goal, I think about the next pound.

I know this post isn't particularly helpful, but I just wanted to say that you're not alone. Hang in there, and don't listen to the haters! (Because haters gonna hate...)

Interestingly, I opted to white knuckle it theough anxiety and ended up losing 15 lbs in a month. I could say sonething about you not being able to handle life without pharmceutical assistance, but I won't go there. My anxiety passed, I regained the weight lost and I feel stronger for having survived it on my own.

I'm so sorry you were so needlessly hard on yourself to the point of weight loss.
