Given what's going on in Gaza and Ukraine I wonder if it was some kind of war exercise? The planes sounded like they were buzzing right overhead!

There has been police and first responder staging in Alexandria and falls church this week I havent seen this since Sept 11. They're were police groups everywhere two nights ago.

I am new to DC. What do these types of drills mean to those that have been here for many years? Some sort of terrorist threat specific to the DC area? Or just general military prep for overall increased US threats?

This is unusual. I’m 40, have lived in DC and the close in suburbs my entire life, and have never seen the stuff people are describing here- although perhaps it’s more common in VA, where I spent less time. A couple years after 9/11 I saw 2 cops with rifles and a German Shepherd at the Bethesda metro. It unnerved me and I didn’t see anything like that again until after Jan 6 when downtown was shut down with military checkpoints.

Well a gunman killed at least 7 people in Maine last night. Maybe the govt can announce when we are in danger from our fellow Americans. Feels like we’re more likely to be killed by a white American man at the grocery store than by a terrorist but I’m not a stats professional

This makes me feel less crazy. There definitely have been low flying jets, not my imagination!

I heard fighter jets scrambling this morning around 6:30 when I got up. It was annoying. I'm in Glover Park, DC.

I spotted a fighter jet today. It looked to be solo which seemed strange to me.

I heard them again last night. Very loud, sounds very low like they were buzzing the roof of my building (I live In Rosslyn). I hear planes flying over all the time - this is something different. It’s unsettling!
