To my PE colleagues who so quickly threw a "lazy and stupid teacher" under the proverbial bus and into the fire: Shame on you! You of all people know Post-Covid skill levels have plummeted, student behavior is unreal and class sizes are through the roof! No other content area has 35-42 students moving simultaneously with equipment. And To suggest a lawsuit, demand to see lesson plans and lead up games in Week 8 of the 1st Quarter....smh...you must teach at Pleasantville Middle. My school just enrolled students from overseas who've never played or seen a kickball game. Now what? Grace Before Greed.

Excuse me? The government is allowed to permanently damage our children's bodies and then we have to pay for medical care ourselves?

OP, call the school to get their insurance coverage info, an then call a lawyer if the don't pay.

Not that poster, but this is how public school PE and recess has always been. It’s also a place where children lose/break eye glasses, retainers, hearing aids, crutches, etc.

You understand you keep posting in MCPS as a private school parent. MCPS is not run like your private and yes, they could give each child a mouth guard but they don't. We are lucky to have heat, AC, TP and paper towels.

This is why school and playgrounds are so boring now - parents freaking out about everything. Accidents happen. It doesn’t mean the kids weren’t supervised. And Street hockey is super fun, one of the best gym units.

My child was injured at school as the result of the actions of another student. Transported by ambulance to the ER. Parent called me apologizing profusely. Multiple injuries, 8 month recovery. Wasn’t able to continue with athletics.

Never occurred to me to sue anyone. Chalked it up to sh#t happens.

No chance. My child's expensive glasses were broken during a gym class by another student. It wasn't an accident. The gym teacher never returned my emails. The assistant principal said that if we had a financial hardship, we'd need to show proof to the counselor. Zero accountability is the name of the game at MCPS.

Agreed. Also why many PE teachers let students just sit on the bleachers and play on their phones. Because one accident and all hell will break loose

Always a good idea for kids with glasses to have a pair with sports frames and shatterproof lenses. Just like they need sneakers for PE.

We can’t even get kids to wear sneaker so I don’t know how a mouth guard would ever work.

Kids sit in the bleachers because there are no consequences. I don’t think that any teacher would encourage that. What is your plan to get them moving? Yes, we call home but if a parent doesn’t care, there is nothing left for us to do.

You need to see the video. If it was a true accident, then so be it. If it happened because 25 students were playing against 25 students with no instructions with a useless teacher, then please pursue this!
