What lead up lessons were had before the big game? What safety measures were taught? Ask to see the lesson plans. I hope at the very least the dental bills are covered. I’m so sorry that this happened to your child.

Also, ask to see the video. Every gym has cameras. Was your child down very low or did someone swing very high?

Sorry, I’ll still enraged. Was it a certified PE teacher or just another burnt out classroom teacher who thinks PE is”fun”

Did you give your child a mouthguard? Did the school prevent your child from wearing it?

Offering a perspective based on humanity. Every accident doesn't have to begin and end with a law suit knee-jerk reaction #mcps "Somebody has to pay!"
To the parent of the injured child: It's most unfortunate what happened to your child. Frustrating and Infuriating, however, have you considered having a conversation with the parent(s) of the child who injured your child?
To my PE colleagues who so quickly threw a "lazy and stupid teacher" under the proverbial bus and into the fire: Shame on you! You of all people know Post-Covid skill levels have plummeted, student behavior is unreal and class sizes are through the roof! No other content area has 35-42 students moving simultaneously with equipment. And To suggest a lawsuit, demand to see lesson plans and lead up games in Week 8 of the 1st Quarter....smh...you must teach at Pleasantville Middle. My school just enrolled students from overseas who've never played or seen a kickball game. Now what? Grace Before Greed.

Arms are easier to fix than teeth. Sad but true.

I’m new to this post. Sadly, law suits are how school district learn. I say this is as SPED educator, who has seen this too many times.

It’s not right. It’s not fair. But it’s a way for other kids not to get more seriously hurt.

Respectfully agree

Same here, mine even had to have surgery and spent 2 nights in the hospital. We tried to get MCPS insurance to cover some of our bills and got no where.

Why would they share mouthguards? That would actually be impossible as they mold to your teeth. At my kids private they are each given a new mouth guard the week before, mold it at home and bring it in. The basic mouthguards are very cheap to buy in bulk. That said, I lost a tooth in field hockey while wearing a mouthguard so not sure how much they help

You understand you keep posting in MCPS as a private school parent. MCPS is not run like your private and yes, they could give each child a mouth guard but they don't. We are lucky to have heat, AC, TP and paper towels.

If your kids are in private, why are you here?

More backdoor private recruiting. Must be really slow at admissions over yonder.

If they do, they must not work. A kid is stealing walkies from our gym. Third time in two months.

My kids are in fcps and complain that their hockey sticks are small and too light. Now I'm so grateful. I'm so sorry this happened to your child. I would definitely be raising as far as I can, but not sure it's worth it to hire a lawyer, since they are expensive too.

You probably signed a waiver at some point
