2010 SYC CB 22 or 23 can't make out the number, isn't he small size for CB position? Looks Asian, but could be wrong. Watched their match against Red Bull, kid pretty fast match up with taller strikers. |
Aahhhhh the power of the badge on the sleeve. Superficial bragging rights above all else. I'll just assume 99.8% of the parents wouldn't tolerate that abusive behavior on another consistently poor results team if they couldn't say, "my son plays mls next" |
I think this statement can be applied to many MLSNext/ECNL teams in the area, coaches and parents displaying poor behavior. Let’s not pretend that Achilles or any other club/team has a monopoly on toxicity. Although take whatever is said on this board with a grain of salt as it’s usually disgruntled parents who believe their kids didn’t get a fair shake that are the frequent posters. |
Watch the game video and listen to the audio. Then come back and tell us not to believe our lying eyes and ears. Yes, of course Achilles isn't the only negative toxic ownership/coaching environment in the DMV. But don't practice intellectual dishonesty and stick your head in the sand in regards to the long-term, sustained, frequent 1st hand reports from multiple witnesses and sources about Achilles. |
You must have never searched Sal or Achilles in the archives. Years worth of frequent posters? Doubt it. |
The fact that you're referencing "years worth of frequent posters" and the "archives" lends credence to the idea that it's the same aggrieved people posting anti-Achilles things. In every thread about Achilles, and every one that is hijacked by the anti-Achilles people, like this one, someone chimes in to look at past threads, and "get your popcorn" or some ess like that. Let it go. It will be OK. I'm sure your son has found a good place to grow and develop. |
After watching the video, I was more impressed with Achilles possession based approach than SYC putting up a big more score with huge kids at U14. The Achilles coach was certainly loud but I liked the way he was trying to get them to play even though they were at a significant physical disadvantage. |
Following up my own message here. I'd love to hear from parents whose sons have left Achilles about their post-Achilles experience. (I'm one of them, just without the ire). I recognize that Achilles, and Sal, have their failings and they are bad enough to be disqualifying for some. I get that. Could you let us know what clubs you've gone to, what the level/league was, and how your experience has been better? I'm genuinely curious to hear how those experiences have played out and what your son has taken from the different environment, and whether there was anything that Achilles did better than the new spot. Maybe don't name the club, if you think it'll ID you too much. Since a lot of folks think Achilles participation in MLS Next is the sole reason for for people to stick with the club, I'd like to hear what your new league is and how you feel about the competition level and how it affects the development and the experience for you. |
Bethesda MLS Next, DS love it here. |
You watched and Listened to that video and Your takeaway from what you heard was 'loud encouraging coaching'? The F-Bombs and sarcasm and cynicism and demeaning berating etc? Where in the world of coaching manuals do you find this acceptable or positive or best practices? If you have possession, the other team doesn't have the ball and therefore cant score. They (meaning every team Achilles faces) certainly can't score a lot, as they all do. |
So, how did Baltimore Armour do?
How did Alexandria do? How did DC United do? How did Achilles other teams do? |
NP. I've seen it and can't imagine why anyone would have their kid playing there. Parents have caught on and now we are seeing the downfall of Achilles. |
Careful guys. This is what got us put in the penalty box/registered users last time |
It's unfortunate that so many put so much falsely inflated value and credence in the "level" of a "league" versus the coaching/teaching/nurturing their child is receiving and the actual individual development of the player. |
