Doesn't help with a Joystick coach hurling profanities and insults at you.

That's what they're know for. Some parents claim to like it, although I think they're probably just trying to rationalize keeping their kid on an MLS Next team.

Aahhhhh the power of the badge on the sleeve.
Superficial bragging rights above all else.

I'll just assume 99.8% of the parents wouldn't tolerate that abusive behavior on another consistently poor results team if they couldn't say, "my son plays mls next"

I think this statement can be applied to many MLSNext/ECNL teams in the area, coaches and parents displaying poor behavior. Let’s not pretend that Achilles or any other club/team has a monopoly on toxicity.

Although take whatever is said on this board with a grain of salt as it’s usually disgruntled parents who believe their kids didn’t get a fair shake that are the frequent posters.

You must have never searched Sal or Achilles in the archives. Years worth of frequent posters? Doubt it.

The fact that you're referencing "years worth of frequent posters" and the "archives" lends credence to the idea that it's the same aggrieved people posting anti-Achilles things. In every thread about Achilles, and every one that is hijacked by the anti-Achilles people, like this one, someone chimes in to look at past threads, and "get your popcorn" or some ess like that. Let it go. It will be OK. I'm sure your son has found a good place to grow and develop.

NP. I've seen it and can't imagine why anyone would have their kid playing there. Parents have caught on and now we are seeing the downfall of Achilles.

Why are you so emotionally invested in this? The "downfall of Achilles"?!? Seriously, why do you care so much? (note: like the more famous "downfall of Achilles," I think this is mostly myth)

Unless that video is a deep-fake AI constructed fiction, then people can skip talking about archives and past threads and personal gripes etc.
The facts speak for themselves and while the truth may be an offence to some, it's certainly not a sin.

Following up my own message here. I'd love to hear from parents whose sons have left Achilles about their post-Achilles experience. (I'm one of them, just without the ire). I recognize that Achilles, and Sal, have their failings and they are bad enough to be disqualifying for some. I get that. Could you let us know what clubs you've gone to, what the level/league was, and how your experience has been better? I'm genuinely curious to hear how those experiences have played out and what your son has taken from the different environment, and whether there was anything that Achilles did better than the new spot. Maybe don't name the club, if you think it'll ID you too much. Since a lot of folks think Achilles participation in MLS Next is the sole reason for for people to stick with the club, I'd like to hear what your new league is and how you feel about the competition level and how it affects the development and the experience for you.

It's unfortunate that so many put so much falsely inflated value and credence in the "level" of a "league" versus the coaching/teaching/nurturing their child is receiving and the actual individual development of the player.

I can understand that and that's what I'm asking for, specific experiences as to why it does or doesn't matter. It's hard to imagine that it doesn't matter at all to the "actual individual development of the player."

There are people here who are saying the coaches of these teams are cruel or the parents are obnoxious... yet when someone posts a link to a game, people pile on with play-by-play criticism of the players. Even calling out players individually by their shirt number.

This isn't a professional game. These kids did not sign up to be fodder for internet trolls. These are 13 YEAR OLD CHILDREN!!!!
There's a reason why no comments are allowed on the Youtube video posting.

I don't care what the score is because it is obvious that you are the losers.

It's not black or white. There are nuances.
Kid 'A' is on a weak MLS Next league team as player number 15 in the depth order. The coaching environment is not great, not overall positive and the results consistently are reflective of the failed philosophy.

Kid 'B' is on a good NAL league team 3rd player on the depth chart. Coaching is good and positive. Team win some lose some and kid is playing a lot and learning.

Who do you want your kid to be?

Keep in mind, the 'quality' of the kids/coaches/competition being in separate distinct buckets between the leagues are mainly narratives made up not based on actual facts.
Many kids can play in so-called higher leagues and many kids should probably be playing down.

So the coach cursing at the 12/13 year olds doesn't get your blood boiling.
It's someone mentioning a player is actually small and not a giant as the false narrative would indicate.

That said, no one should be picking on or identifying the children. (leave that to the parents and said kids with their FB & IG accounts seeking 'likes' and views)

West Virginia u14s seems to have the most trouble
9-0 loss to Red Bull
7-0 loss to Bethesda
5-0 loss to cedar stars
4-1 loss to Baltimore armour

Sounds like WV jumped (or were pushed) into the deep end with a sink or swim approach.
I'm almost sure they were in NCSL last season.

We played a West Virginia Soccer team last season in NCSL Division 3. Are you saying they are the SAME team that went from NCSL to MLSNext?

I think so. But I guess the idea is that they'll draw from a wide area as the only local high(est) level team? I'm from around there so I've been trying to keep tabs on them via Facebook and Instagram. They've had tryouts in Leesburg, VA; Martinsburg, WV; a sports complex in southern Frederick County, MD; and Hood College in Frederick. There's another one this Sunday at Hood. That's a pretty wide net, geographically. The home games I've seen on the MLS Next schedule are in Charles Town, WV and Martinsburg, WV. I can't see how they'd make that geography work. Some folks would have to drive a really long way.

I never understood the wide geographic net that WV was recruiting from.

Some people from the dmv are driving that far.

They'll be fine. They will need a few years to get up to speed but will have a pretty exclusive draw for talent that does not have an alternative, and will become more competitive over time. Don't assume that kids cannot develop outside of metro bubbles simply because of misconceptions you may have about particular areas and their interest in soccer. Salt Lake, anybody?

I think the net is a lot wider than, say, Achilles. The question is where else talented kids would go within 100 miles of the WVa club and how many kids are talented within that radius. That is why RSL and Tulsa/OKC in ECNL can have pretty good teams (and obviously RSL is MLS).
