College and University Discussion
If you don’t understand how this is different, there is nothing more to say. |
No, you and everyone else is still free to express their ideas. However, you are not free from the consequences for expressing those thoughts. Others are free to decide they don't want to employ you if you express support for a terrorist organization (or anything else they deem immoral/despicable). It's how the first amendment has always worked |
Yes, they won’t get arrested for it, but certainly companies can decide not to hire you and your fiends can drop you. |
I am at a biglaw Firm. We are already looking into this for people we have given offers to to start next fall (currently interviewing for summer associates as well and cross listing our interview list with the published list on Twitter). We will be rescinding offers. There is a list circulating with everyone’s names. It’s awful and has raised so many internal questions. Getting pressure from clients… Big large asset management firms about this. People are up in arms and want nothing to do with these imbeciles. It’s true we are realizing we’ve dodged a bullet And should never have extended offers to some of these folks |
IMO, it's a lot different today because of how much more sensitive people are about being PC, and social media has really exploded in the past few years. Counter culture will and has always existed on big college campuses, but then it's just limited to that campus. When you post politically charged opinions, it's on the internet for the world to see. It's very different than protests on college campuses. |
Yup,just like the "subway Karen" who lost her job last week after her drunken racist rant towards a group of German tourists. she's free to say whatever the hell she wants. Her company is then also free to say, we don't want someone with those racist views working for us/representing us. It's how freedom works---there are still potential consequences for what you say/do |
| Guys – make sure your kids are not on these lists. You may need to do damage control. Some of them were just stupid and did not have ill intent. And there will likely be huge ramifications and consequences. |
They cannot simply "scrub their internet presence well enough" their names are out there and just wont magically disappear. |
M the problem is these kids jump the gun. They don’t do any research. They just follow along blindly. |
| I feel badly because college is a time to explore what you think. They did pick an ill-timed moment to explore though. |
They can explore all they want. Just keep the opinion out of cyberspace for the world to see. |
|
where do you find the list
|
Please explain how this is possible. |
And then you and I will be stuck with paying back their student loans. I mean, it’s us as taxpayers who are paying off people’s student loans. If these kids don’t get jobs and are in huge amounts of debt, we’re the ones paying for them. Not a bad deal, I guess. |

Interesting, that there is so much vehemence for these no-power students, but none for those in high positions in this country who are seemingly actively working against our nation's ability to protect itself.
I though America's outrage meter was broken with the last presidency. |
