Make sure he understands that any requests to visit and stay or houseguests or ideas of houseguests are run by you first, not last.

My spouse is a very poor communicator, ie avoids convos and responding to people, often runs down the clock on decisions. We used to get sent flight bookings from his mother or brother t their multi week visit. No prior communication other than: when are the kids off school.
Once we were booked for a ski trip elsewhere and they had to unwind their surprise flights to DC.
