How would you handle vacations in this scenario?

I also think this is wild but not super surprising. My first job as a CPS worker, while I had leave and was technically allowed to take time off, it was "taboo". I also accrued a bunch of comp time because of trainings and the first few months were HARD. I remember I was criticized for taking like 3 days off to have a 5 day weekend about 4.5 months after starting, but I needed a few days to recoup.

My 2nd job at a hospital (it was a sentara hospital and i'm pretty sure this is still the policy), they made you use your PTO if you were sick and you were not allowed to use any sick time until you accrued 40 hours and only if you maintained 40 hours, which take a solid year. There's a few exceptions for longer medical emergencies but yeah....it was crazy and WRONG. Ultimately, I quit.

What I would suggest is to take a trip without your DH solo with the kids or include girlfriends/family if they are available (complicates it though) and then plan a few long weekend getaways with him and the kids (maybe a weekend away kids free if you can swing it) to have family time and help him get through this time. My husband gets MUCH less time than I do and so I my kids on solo trips annually for spring break and sometimes a week in the summer too. It's been honestly really special. You'll figure it out!

Is there a reason you and kids can't have a vacation?
