Kale is a weed. I get that it’s healthy. But it’s a weed.

This is my point. You have made my point. Go in peace.

We hear you guys. You like bacon, BBQ sauce, and deep fried batter. We hear your words, and we also hear your heavy steps, and the ambulance's siren taking you away in cardiac arrest.

I agree that I'd be pretty light on my feet if my diet was mostly made up of food that tastes terrible.

I've realized recently that I need to add Eggplant to that list. I want to like it more than I do.

Oooh I love eggplant. Don’t eat it enough though cos the kids don’t like it.

OP I agree with you on turnips and fennel.

In re green peppers, I have always suspected that this one was a "but we are hungry NOW" issue because they are actually just unripe red peppers. Why it stuck, I dunno. I find them nice enough if they're not overcooked, but nothing that red peppers wouldn't do better in my opinion.

I also agree about artichoke as to who figured out how to eat it. It just takes so much work to prepare them, and they're not exactly easy to grow either.

Leeks are so good

THIS

And they permeate every other food you cook them with, so you can’t just eat around them. I grew up with a mother who thought green peppers were God’s gift to vegetation and when you walked in the door when you got home and that smell hit you, you knew it was going to be a dinner of sadness.

You win the internet today.

Julia Child added them to recipes. They somehow become not only acceptable but required for some recipes? People! these are just vegetables nobody knew what to do with and they tried it on before feeding it to the pigs.

Am I missing any?

Turnips
Leeks
Fennel

Rutabegas.

I felt this way about turnips, jicama, and radishes until I went to a farm fundraiser and was served all three sliced raw with various dips (salsas, vinaigrette, etc) for dipping them into. So good.

I don't understand the appeal of most greens. Romaine and iceberg lettuce - crunchy, good vehicle for other salad fixins + dressing. Dark leafy greens - gross. I only eat them because they're good for me. My friend calls them "guilty greens."

Spinning off here - all store-bought BBQ is atrocious. Homemade or not at all.

I'm quite ignorant on jackfruit! I thought it was used all over the place now for its "meaty" texture? Not working?

Raw green jackfruit is an abomination. The ripe yellow fruit is a heavenly delight.

You've just opened a new category. If the vegetable can be deep fried, is it salvageable? Palatable even? Discuss.

Sweet potato fries are an insult to the humble, hard working russet potatoes french fries.

+1.
Also, sweet potato is not a dessert, even with extra sugar.

I love steamed artichoke! It's fun to peel them and nibble at the fleshy bit, then cut out the heart. You dip all the bits you want to eat in vinaigrette.

Root vegetables like turnips are delicious in stews and curries. Leeks are great in soups, or cooked and served cold in summer salads.

I do agree about okra. Haven't found a way to cook them that will make them edible. And I don't enjoy the bitter taste of dark leafy greens, so I have to cook them down quite a bit.

Oh, I love jicama. Eat it like carrots. It's hard to find here, though: most of the ones in supermarkets are moldy.
