Stolen paintings

We are meant to be inspired by the selfless, compassionate approach of the victim who embodies progressive values. And on a certain level, I am inspired by her.

But I bet that if the thief was a bearded white guy with a mullet driving a truck the victim and the center would have called the police to report a hate crime.

Am I right?

I find it really interesting how police abolitionists throw their deeply held beliefs out the window if the bad guy is a cisgender white man.

He is white. Watch her video.

If you are white, they will call the cops.

Thief was white. They didn't call.

Some thoughts: I took a very quick look at the theif's photo and it was my impression that he looked white. Also, a key part of the dynamic in Adams Morgan is the !@#$% old hippies who still basically run the neighborhood. The artist seems to be Millennial but everyone else blowing the restorative justice horn or chanting "we keep us safe" is one of the "old timers". They are positively blooming with pride that the neighborhood we family-minded Gen Xers invested so much in is becoming the seedy hovel of their hedonistic youthful days.

Is there a link to a pic of the thief?

Yes - the OP's. But you have to actually watch the video.

I thought this was obnoxious at first but I can see her point and am persuaded by the fact she didn’t treat the white male suspect differently. I think she, personally, dislikes interacting with police and believes (correctly) they wouldn’t do much to help her. She’s right that social media is a better way to ID this guy. That said, she’s naive to think that a posse is any less violent than the police; conversely also naive to think civilians should confront a possibly dangerous thief on their own. But at the end of the day she doesn’t want to make a police report that will go nowhere. Fair.

I’m sorry, but SJW “centered” approaches to crime are so unintentionally comical, poorly reasoned and are just getting so clichéd. The overuse of the “language of oppression” with words and terms like “restorative”, “holistic, non-punitive approaches to healing” and a focus on the feelings and needs of the assailants. Like, really?

I agree with none of it. I’m so tired of this period in history. We’ll look back on these progressive approaches to criminal justice the same way we look at disco. An interesting fad without longevity. In the thousands of years of human evolution, basically letting people know their behavior is only kept in check by a hug and getting asked some personal questions about why they stole something, has never been shown to work. It’s idiotic.

What has worked is removing violent or criminal types and jailing them. Instead we get performative wokeness lessons from untalented “artists”. I bet all her art is focused on super trite, obvious topics like gentrification and what not as well. I just can’t. Everyone is so annoying these days.

You know you are right but then we should really apply the law to everybody. But then the black immigrant woman who mistakenly thought she could and informed the people at the poll so her vote was held as a provisional ballot and never counted is given five years in prison, the black guy who came out of orison 20 yrs ago snd votes three months before his probation ends because the parole guy mistakenly told him he could vote is arrested and faces prosecution, while the white MAGA who fraudently voted for his dead MiL by mail and confirmed the vote when the state sent a letter to the dead MIL asking her to confirm that she had voted faced no prosecution, or Younkin’s then 17 your kid allegedly tries to vote twice on election day even though he is s minor and faces no consequences. I am ok to give 5 years in prison to whoever votes and does not have a right to if everybody goes to jail, not Black people who make a mistake while White people knowingly committing fraud face no consequences

Dude, whatever, sure.

I am talking about violent crime and robbery, both of which have skyrocketed in major cities since we’ve shifted toward a less punitive approach to crime since about 2020, after the George Floyd riots and subsequent move toward adopting progressive criminal justice reform and lessening prosecutions, all while lowering police budgets.

The article is about a bohemian artist, with a kind heart, but ultimately know idea what she’s talking about. She basically “doesn’t engage with police” and that’s a huge issue right now because we actually need the police. We need judges and das who want to prosecuted we need to stop sending the message to criminals that restorative Justice is all they will get if they steal, stab or rape.

So basically, as someone who grew up in the inner city, and having seen the prior crime waves, I’m sick of these naive, idealist who basically want to infantilize criminals and who don’t believe in accountability.

I’m sorry, but that’s an emotionally based anecdote that is not easily quantifiably verifiable, no matter how much you “feel” it’s correct.

What is easily verifiable are the year over year statistics on violent crime in DC. They’re getting really bad. It’s because of a lax on crime progressive criminal justice reform approach fail.
