Classy Homecoming dress - do they exist?

A lot of those dresses in the Dillards link are cute. Still short, but the potential to be reasonably short and most are not super low cut. I can understand why the pp suggested it.

Welcome. You must be new here. Please allow me to apologize in advance bc you’re about to get flamed for daring to insinuate what you just insinuated. Just because retailers‘ homecoming dress inventory looks EXACTLY like what a girl in the 80s-mid 90s would have worn to an ill-advised “hookers and pimps”-themed college costume party doesn’t mean you’re allowed to point that out. Don’t believe your lying eyes. Nothing to see here. You’re just supposed to allow your daughter to wear these dresses as if it’s totally normal and fine. #progress
Also don’t sexualize young girls.
But let’s absolutely make sure they look as sexualized as possible.
Except don’t point that out, you creeper!

No wonder these poor girls are confused.

Having modesty standards is no longer in vogue.

It’s more about not imposing those modesty standards onto others.

Obviously you can decide what rules to set for your children. What’s “progress” is being honest and accountable in articulating our rationale for those standards.

You are imposing your standards as well. Everyone is attacking OP as if something is wrong with her asking. She and presumably her daughter want something more modest. So how about we point her in the right direction instead of attacking her? OP it’s very simple. The more expensive the store, the more covered up the dresses will be. If you are on a budget try Saks Off Fifth or Nordstrom Rack. Lots of cute dresses that don’t scream old lady.

Also, moms of girls, can we do something about the sneaker craze with these too short, too sexy dresses?

The sneakers are the best part of their outfits!

Homecoming is outside at the football field at our local high school. So only sneakers will work.

They want their breasts and butts to show. I hate it but yes it’s hard to do anything about it. This is what is in and what they think make them looks good.

Why? I'm thrilled that girls are no longer destroying their feet and that comfort is trendy!

Last year, my DD wore a super short jumpsuit. I loved it, she looked adorable.

This is why they have parents. Some parents are better than others.

Sorry, sensible shoes are something I support 100%.

I know some girls who wear some kind of shorts under the super short dresses.

Thank God your DD will look classy. The last dance I went to most girls looked like a bunch of cheap hookers, cheap dresses or not. When they go to college and go out, everyone will laugh at them. Parents, teach the difference between hot and trash please.

My daughter loves fashion and we’ve talked about not looking cheap since she was about 10 years old. I explained to her that cheap looking has nothing to do with price. Although cheaper clothes aren’t ans well tailored. Also about not going with the trends if it doesn’t suit you. Go with what is flattering.

I decided this was not the hill I was going to die on. They all wear short and tight for Homecoming - as long as everything is basically covered, I'm ok.
