My minivan is fully stocked - camp chair, blankets, pillows, hats, parka, umbrella, cooler, reusable grocery bags, books. And no, I do not leave my kids and come home. I am always close by.

I’m talking about 13-16 year olds. They often walk around town by themselves and have phones.

My kids have been involved in ECs on a competitive level since 1st grade.

In middle and high school the stakes are even higher, so aimlessly hanging around is a very rare phenomenon.

So you are watching their 2 hour practice every day?

Oh “competitive” since !1st! grade. That explains a lot.

Yeah go for walks or gym are options I do as well.

Why recs for other Wi-Fi places besides Sbux, Panera, WF, library, and McDonalds? Esp in Bethesda and Tysons area…

I just hotspot off my phone.

Do you have an RV with a table or something? I prefer to work sitting with a table. Hotspot for our work has limits and I need to remote access many machines.

NP and I’ve gotten really good at working in the front seat of my car. I prefer that to sitting in a place if it’s not too hot or cold. I used to walk but now I work, browse stores or waste time on here. Alone time is also precious. I’ve spent time wandering in all of the stores in the strip malls because I didn’t want to go to Tysons galleria.

I usually work from my car or a nearby coffee shop unless the activity is less than fifteen minutes away.

I love when this happens. I go for a walk, run errands, hit the library, take my laptop to a coffee shop (feels like stolen time to get stuff done), catch up on phone calls from my car, get my nails done, literally endless ways to enjoy myself that are not killing time.

I either try to set up carpools so that I only drive one way, split drives with my spouse or take my computer and work while I wait.

I would not drive back and forth - too much wasted time.

This. I too love when one of the kids has 2-hour practices or activities, although not every day. I try new restaurants and coffee shops, squeeze in a walk, do some shopping, bring a cooler with an ice pack and go grocery shopping. There's a lot you can get done in a couple of hours! If it's an every day thing, I will alternate carpooling with another family so I only have to kill time every other time.

When this happens?? Must be rare. Its 4 days a week for me. I can't burn 2 hours doing nothing most weekdays. We clearly have different lives.

If it is anywhere ballpark dinner time, I will often go and treat myself to a nice quiet meal serving a cuisine that my spouse and children don't like. One of my kids likes sushi, but my spouse and other child does not, so I often go and treat myself to sushi and decompress. Indian is another one.

Do you work?

Yes, often about 60 hours per week

Who does nothing. I get a ton done. Work, errands, phone calls, this is time management 101.

I usually have errands to get done, so I can make it productive. Or I will take my younger kid for a treat at dunkin' donuts.

+1

Lol

"That's not something I could manage productively myself, so I must conclude that I'm simply better than you."

I was referring to posters who “try new restaurants and coffee shops alone” or sit and watch their kid the whole time every practice.
