Is ‘girlfriend’ offensive?

I don't think girlfriend/boyfriend is offensive. I don't like partner though as a substitute. It conveys a relationship that may not exist (i.e. you share a home, children, finances, etc.). I think of a partner like a spouse.

No way. That conveys even less information than girlfriend and makes him sound like a homosexual.

I am 44. I’ve been dating an amazing man for about 10 months now. I call him my boyfriend. He calls me his girlfriend. Neither one of us finds it offensive (why would we!), but I admit it’s a little strange to call a 49 year old my BOYfriend. As Carrie said to Big, “aren’t you a little old to be a boyfriend?” Maybe I should start calling him my manfriend, like Carrie.

"This is Jane." Just leave it there.

Never date someone who is easily offended. This girlfriend of yours sounds like a nightmare.

She sounds like a feminazi.

I think girlfriend is ok for women but wouldn't directly call a woman a girl. that said, She might prefer to avoid "girl" altogether, with something like "partner," but that is usually reserved for a more long-term, committed companion. S.O.? Lover? I don't think we have a better term than girlfriend, tbh.

You are uptight

Introduce her as "mah lady" or "mah woman" and see if that flies.
