Bottled water

Buying plastic like that is irresponsible.

We have a Brita water filter pitcher in the fridge.

I know you think this “problem” makes you look wealthy and UC, OP, but to my mind, you and your family are as big a pile of trash as the waste you generate from all your plastic water bottle consumption.

Your children’s teeth will be rotted and nasty thanks to not being exposed to fluoridated water.

You are the reason republicans don’t believe in climate change nor have environmental responsibility.

Chill out

Blame the water companies, let the man drink whatever water he pleases

You better grow all your own food

1). It flat out tastes better. Some people scoff at the idea that water has a taste, but if you try it, you will 100% see it.

2). It has a higher mineral content and pH than other waters – this has been scientifically documented. Just because all water looks the same does not mean they are all the same – lettuce that has E. coli may look the same as lettuce without E. coli, but certainly they are different.

3). I previously got annoyed with his expense and tried out the reverse osmosis machines at MOM’s. For one, it’s a hassle to carry all your bottles back-and-forth from the supermarket (unlike Fiji, which I get auto-delivered by Amazon). And two, I noticed that the bottles developed a moldy smell when I did this – I question the cleanliness of the MOM’s machines.

For all these reasons, I just suck it up and pay for the Fiji water.

I agree that Fiji water is the best. I can certainly distinguish between Fiji, Brita filtered water and tap water. I would never drink tap water, the chlorine smell is awful. We used Brita filters in the past, but now we use Aquagear brand ( they send us filter every 6 months). Fiji water is rather expensive, but if I could, I would only buy this brand.

I recently toured a site in Baltimore where a bottled water company has a plant. Turns out they use Baltimore City water and just filter it a lot. So, OP, your bottled water is not coming from pristine mountain spring, it’s probably from some municipal water system. Keep that in mind.

If you refuse to drink tap water at least get the 5 gallon bottles delivered and get a water cooler. At least those bottles get reused.

THIS. Get a water cooler and buy the 5 gallon water jugs.

Just drink tap water! If you don't like the flavor. use a Brita pitcher or an undersink filter -- we have one that only filters the cold input, so it's not wasting filtered water on washing dishes. There is absolutely no reason you can't just drink tap water, except maybe you feel like burning money on single-use plastic and having stuff shipped to your house that literally comes out of the faucet on demand.

Don’t you have a fridge with a water filter? Use that.

Fiji water, lol.

Anyway, a reverse osmosis system is what you need. I live in flyover country and I have one. I can’t believe you are in DC and are slumming it with micro plastics like you can’t even read and grew up in a gutter.

This really horrified me. My family of five is on vacation in a place where the tap water isn’t safe to drink. I cannot believe the number of bottles we have generates. They’re all in a huge pile waiting to be taken to recycling and I feel guilty just looking at it. I can’t imagine doing this full time.

The plastics in the cap of the bottled water cause Kidney cancer. Drinking bottled water when you really need it to go out is ok but not on a regular basis

I agree they all taste different (although imo bottled water is the kind that tastes gross) but along with the plastic waste associated with bottled water, I would also be concerned with the lack of quality control and regulation on the water that goes into the bottles. The US water system isn’t perfect (looking at you flint) but at least we have systems in place to clean our tap water and monitor its cleanliness. Who knows what contaminants are in your average bottle of Fiji?
