Housekeepers kid stole medication from us-terminate or not

I would tell her not to bring the son anymore but I wouldn’t fire her. People working these one are often in financially precarious positions, and I wouldn’t want to be responsible for making things worse for this poor woman.

We had a nanny who often brought her tween (and eventually teen) son to work, and they were both basically members of the family. (As in, we attended the son’s wedding.) Household employee relationships can be very personal.

OP needs to clarify what a “housekeeper” is. Does she just mean the cleaning lady for god sake?

OP here. The housekeeper is here 5 days a week and as needed on weekends.

That's a lot of hours.

Why was she bringing her son?

Keep the housekeeper, ban the son from your home forever. Invest in a few more indoor cameras.

Good help is hard to find and worth a premium.

Probably to keep an eye on him. He's obviously a troublemaker. Housekeeper is hoping that he picks up some work habits.

If she’s good and you have a good relationship, I would not fire her over this. Son is not allowed back. I wonder if she was taking him with her because he has addiction issues.

I don’t lodge serious complaints like this in cases when I’m so vulnerable. I either trust my house cleaners or daycare workers or I don’t. I’m not having drama with my house or with people who take care of my child. Not worth it!

+1 also, if she has your key and/or a password to your home, I would change, regardless of her employment.

I would change the locks, too. It’s not personal, it’s prudent.

Sorry this happened, OP.

I would change the locks too maybe he is casing your house.

Also why do you have cameras in the bathroom?

If he could not return the pills, yes I would terminate her. You can’t normally replace pain pills without a huge hassle - is your dog supposed to be in pain now? Are they going to compensate you for the time and effort to get replacement meds? There is a chance you can’t get replacement meds without filing a police report.

I would not be comfortable having someone related to an addict have access to my home. I would terminate and change the locks / code. I would try not to file a police report if I could help it, but I would not leave my dog in pain.
