What did/does you 8-9yo son wear to sleep?

To bed he wears a junk t-shirt (like old baseball team, walk-a-thon, etc.) and cloth shorts.

Mine is in second grade and he bent over to pick something up and a girl said "I like your Mario underpants." He was mortified and requested plain underwear as well.
Same pajamas worn here. Sweatpants in winter.

I have two kids. My daughter is ten and my son is almost eight. Both of them go to bed in just their underwear briefs. Neither one wears a shirt, a shorts or pajamas.

1) Kids being embarrassed about their own choices isn't exactly terrible. Hard to get through adolescence without having at least one of those moments (particularly as far as clothes). It's super low stakes and character building.
2) I think you're sending the wrong message - "I've found out what other kids wear so that you won't be embarrassed, here it is" rather than "wear what you want and if other people don't like it, shrug." I know you're not going to say that, but your actions do.

I understand kids want to fit in and avoid embarrassment, and I don't begrudge them that, but I'm not taking that goal on for myself.

I would let him know what he should wear but I wouldn’t mention because “that’s what the other kids wear”. I’d help him find comfortable clothes based on weather, and location. It might be cold at night, it might be hot. Either way, even though he’s only a little kid I would discourage the no shirt look. Shirtless men give me visions of cop shows with the guy inexplicably not wearing a shirt on the ground getting handcuffed. Nip it early.

Somewhere in middle elementary, I switched from PJs to wear Hanes' plaid briefs, shorts, and a t-shirt.

Some still wet the bed at this age and wear pull-ups at night. Nobody is going to care at all what kind of underwear he has.

I feel that many of these 'what does your x- year-old son/daughter wear to bed' questions are from pervert trolls. I mean, how hard is it to get some hot weather and cold weather pj sets from Target or Amazon or whatever? Parenting is not this hard.

My kids do that in summer. Junk t-shirts plus soft shorts.

After exhausting Target's possibilities, my kids switched to different varieties of underwear purchased from Uniqlo online. We buy soft shorts from Uniqlo and Old Navy. But they are not always tight fitting.

I think so too. This topic comes up with bizarrely frequently.
