What did/does you 8-9yo son wear to sleep?

Anonymous
My son just finished 3rd grade and is going to sleepaway camp for the first time this summer. Until very recently he wore pajama sets - mostly from Hanna Anderson - to sleep. He only likes shorts or pants that are tight-fitting when he sleeps because he doesn’t like when the legs ride up. The last 2 weeks or so he has decided that he doesn’t wear shirts to sleep anymore and is only wearing pajama shorts.
What should I pack for him to wear at sleepaway camp? I have no idea what the other boys will be wearing. He has older sisters but of course they have no experience with little boy sleeping styles. Dh wears loose pajama pants or shorts, or his boxer briefs and t-shirts so he also isn’t much help.
Also - ds only wants to wear brief underwear. Is that pretty standard for boys his age or do most of them wear boxer briefs? I don’t want him to feel uncomfortable with his clothing at camp. I recently went to purchase him more underwear and it was hard to find boys briefs above size 6, so I’m wondering if boxers/boxer briefs become more common as the boys underwear department in Target would have me believe. Should I buy him some boxer briefs to take in case he wants them at camp? When his sister went to camp at the same age she was “mortified” as the only girl who didn’t wear a “bra” so I’d love to avoid this for my son if possible.
Any advice from parents with older boys welcome!

Nobody will care what kind of underwear he has. He’s totally fine wearing regular briefs.

Why would an 8 or 9 year old girl need a bra?

A lot of preteen girls wear little “bralets” which are like a half camisole type things to wear under shirts.

Boxer briefs

Sleep in shorts and tshirt or light sweats and tshirts (for camp) at home they sleep in boxers

That was just the age my DS was switching over to boxer briefs. He prefers them to briefs now. But he has always worn mix and match pajama pants and a t-shirt to bed.

I don’t know about this. I have a 9 year old, and probably in the past year or so he’s been in the no tighty whities camp. Not sure where he Heather this. Fir my older son, we had to tell him he needed boxer briefs before going to middle school since they have to change for PE. My 9 year old sleeps in no shirt and cheap pull on woven shorts from targets cat and Jack line.

My 8 year old son just wears underwear (boxer briefs) to bed at home but I think at sleep away camp or a sleepover I’d tell him to wear his pjs? I don’t know maybe it doesn’t matter. His pjs are just a short sleeve + shorts pj set from target.

My 8 year old still wears briefs like themed ones like Minecraft, Star Wars, etc. Is that too babyish at this age? He seems to like them but maybe we'll try boxer briefs soon. He's heading to sleep away camp next summer so none of this crossed my mind!

Other kids might actually think they are cool. I know kids his age still wearing pull-ups to bed so it definitively shouldn’t be an issue.

My 8 and 10 year old wear themed boxer briefs, pretty much exclusively so I don't think it's babyish. We get these sets at Walmart:
