What I’d do instead is focus on some delicious apps. You didn’t ask for suggestions but I’d do a caprese salad with baguette slices on the side, and a hard cheese with fresh fruit like cherries and rice crackers.

Love that - had already planned on the caprese but will add the cheese and fruit. TY!

Caprese?? Why on earth. It’s dish with Asian flavors , caprese doesn’t go with that . If anything I would go to HMart and get some banchan- kimchi, seaweed salad, soy sauce eggs, etc.

Because one of the guests, who happens to be Asian, offered to bring this app.

PP who suggested salad with carrot ginger dressing. I’m Asian and while I would not have thought to serve caprese with your meal, I think it’s totally fine and would happily eat both! Our thanksgivings and meals are often a mishmash of different cultures - roast turkey with kimchi, sweet potatoes with seaweed salad. Sometimes it gets a little weird (sashimi and mashed potatoes) but it’s all good.

Do all of your guests like fish? I hate it.
Please have a nice salad and soup (gazpacho?) ready.

Why do you think it matters that the person making caprese is Asian? I understand Asians might also eat caprese , but you asked what should YOU serve with it and then said “had already planned on the caprese” with a Japanese style fish dish. Which seems a weird combo

I confirmed with all the guests. "Thinking of serving this - do you eat it? If not, would X work?" I pretty much always ask folks if they have allergies/aversions.

While I am still wrapping my mind around the potates and sashimi, TYSM for the salad suggestion. Found some good options and plan to make one of them!

Reporting out: great meal enjoyed by all. Went with a salad with carrot ginger dressing and was a great complement to the tuna. Opted to go with a different marinade than specified in recipe and DH grilled each slice perfectly. DH said it was the best version to date.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
