Does street name impact your choice of house purchase?

In Colonial Village there's a street called "Hemlock" and I always think that is a REALLY bad street to live on!

Balls Hill made us reconsider but mostly the traffic.

I was looking at a property on a nicely named road in the country and plugged the address I and it came up in google maps as Cemetery Lane. When the developer subdivided land in the area he had the name of the road changed. And there is a small (30 or so graves) family cemetery from the 1800’s on the land.

Haha this is actually a pretty funny topic. We haven't started our official search for a home yet but I've been looking at zillow/redfin and such, in preparation. I saw this pretty awesome house but I definitely did take notice that it was on a street that ended with "Farm" which did make me cringe a little. Being from NYC and DH being from Chicago I can only imagine the roasting from our families! Haha.

Anyway, I say if you find your dream home in this market...regardless of the street name, go for it!

As long as it’s not Buttplug Lane, I’m cool. That’s the one street name I will NOT tolerate. I do personally enjoy buttplugs but I REFUSE to telegraph that fact via my street name.

I just clicked on a listing last week and saw it’s on Gypsy Lane. I would never buy a house on a street whose name many people consider a racial slur.

Yes, we wrote off the Mosby Woods neighborhood in Fairfax because of the name of the neighborhood and many of the streets within it (Plantation Parkway, Confederacy Lane, etc). Also, the location was across a major street from downtown, which would make it difficult to walk/bike downtown, but mostly we looked elsewhere because of the names.

Some of the streets have recently changed names, but I think the neighborhood decided to keep the name Mosby, who was a confederate terrorist, so hard pass.

I have to say something about this every single time we pass it on the way to the soccer-plex!

We live on Karen Lane. It's not the best name these days.

I’m not buying a house on Morningwood Drive, Olney.

I recall getting holiday cards from an address on 'Lois Lane"

My street name has Potomac in it and I have to spell it out for anyone who doesn’t live in the DMV. Then they say it back “Pot -o-mack”

Lois Lane would be an awesome street to live on!

There's a relatively new street near me named Snowden Hallowell Way. It's named for 2 schools, but I always think it's such a mouthful. It probably wouldn't stop me from buying there, but I'm glad to live on a street with a short name.

I would definitely not buy on a street named for Josef Goebbels though!
