I’ve always thought the probability is that we aren’t alone. But I subscribe to Stephen Hawking’s view, which was that the distance any intelligent life forms would have to travel to reach us is so vast that in order to get here, they’d have to use technology that is massively more advanced than what we have. As such, we’d be at their mercy. So his view was that it’s foolish for us to advertise our existence because we’re basically extremely simple life forms.[/quote]
