New car isn't driveable, but can't be fixed

That car will not pass the required Virginia safety inspection. Therefore, it is unsafe to drive. I’d insist on a loaner.

Part is on back order just buy it your self and install.

My Cadillac had same problem locked seatbelts and on back order six months. Bought a used pair junkyard and back in road .

Cars get in junk yard everyday.

Wait. Is there no other airbag that could be installed there? Does it have to be that particular backordered part? I know nothing about airbags, but usually several manufacturers make similar parts, and a knowledgeable mechanic (not, obviously, at the dealership) can tell you which other part can be substituted.

np. I'm guessing that the airbag is fine. OP destroyed the sensor in the seat, and now the functional airbag will not deploy in a collision because the broken sensor will not confirm to the system that the passenger seat is occupied by a passenger of sufficient weight to warrant the airbag.

OP needs a new sensor, and that is unavailable.

PP you replied to. Same issue. OP can go to a mechanic and source a sensor that will work.

They're not going to provide a loaner because they are not assuming responsibility for the airbag issue under warranty coverage. They have determined, and OP has apparently agreed, that OP's actions caused the defect.

That’s a $79 part under seat that is “plug and play” anyone over age of 4 can install it.

Order online and pop it in

they don’t test airbags as part of the inspection. Don’t spread false information.
