This is what I don’t understand - if middle and high schools can share, why can’t elementary?

We.don’t.know.

Is there a principal on here that might have an answer?

Excellent Question. We used to send home results in Report Cards but they stopped that too.

Why in the world would you ask about this here? Call the school office and ask the principal. Not that hard.

800 children attend my child's school. Do you know how disruptive and ridiculous it would be for even half of us to demand 20 minutes of the principal's time to address our concerns? It would literally be inhumanly impossible to address the avalanche of Karen and Kens.

Some of us are not garbage people but would appreciate the scores nonetheless.

Scores will be posted in ParentVUE the last week of school.

Have these middle schoolers initiated the question with their teachers? Or did the teacher give each kid their score individually? I’m sure you can appreciate the difference in maturity levels between middle schoolers and the 8-9 year olds that are taking SOL tests as third graders. The teacher has better things to do than call kids up one by one and have a private conference. I believe the teacher is still…teaching.

AFAIK, the teachers aren't allowed to tell you how the kid did unless they are required to tell you they have the option to retake.

I know - it's stupid. The teachers know the scores the day after the tests are taken. I think it's stupid that test scores are knowable and they keep from the parents. I think if a test score can be known - it should be given to parent.

Just because you want something doesn’t mean you get it. The entitlement is gross. There’s no need for you to have it immediately. You just want to know. Meanwhile, there are kids still testing. There are kids who have to do retakes. There are kids who have to do make-ups.

If you’re this upset over a stupid SOL score, wait until your kid takes the AP exam. You have to wait 2 months. The horror!

I don't think entitlement to a score that is knowable is a big problem. My kids are in AAP and advance pass everything at this point so IDGAF anymore if I have to wait. I've gotten used to it at this point. My middle schooler for the first time got his scores within days of taking it and I was shocked and it just really made me realize how dumb it is that you have to wait in ES for no reason.

I need to know because if my child fails, I'd want to have a conference to spend the next few weeks getting as much information as necessary about gaps in their knowledge from their teacher that I will remediate over the summer with expensive private tutoring. That I will be paying for. Other people are going to need to know whether their kids could get resources like summer school, etc. to support their learning. Time is critical here. It's not just being nosy, but if your child fails, specific action is really need to remediate in a timely manner. Gaps will persist and we can't just rely on the schools when a child is failing.

Honestly, this is my issue with all of the testing. We don't get the reports in the timely manner to address deficits in real time. the i-ready is a good example. It takes two or three months to see scores. I could have worked with my child during this time but I can't know even if they need to help or what they need help with because I don't have the data.

It's an endless cycle. I am not against testing. But the data hoarding is terrible and undermines the point of using testing as a tool to support learning.

If I want to know, I call the front office and they tell me over the phone.

It’s pretty ridiculous to call someone “garbage” just for daring to ask a question about their child’s test scores.
