# of kids? 2

Family money, obviously.

What ages are you? 37 and 41
Net worth? $2m + $1m of equity in primary home
HHI? $600k
# of kids? 2, one in private and one will start next year

Actually I can almost bet that a majority have businesses or are professionals. Barring the trolls and the ones with more than $15M. Some people are just lucky.

This thread is ridiculous and you all have no class.

Class is Warren Buffet. Net worth of over 100 billion and doesn't give an F about his house.

Please share - curious - my sister thinks we are poor and it was dumb of me to quit.[twitter] She is younger by 5 years and has much less but likes to criticize. I could have continued another 3-4 years or more but the politics and the gradually decreasing level of my staff (education, experience, communication, just overall) was demotivating.

Ages - 52, 51
NW - $3.7M (including house). Low per DCUM standards I know and HHI is even lower.
HHI - $200k now (from $425k as I just quit last week after 25 years when I turned 51 due to some chronic health issues).
Kid - 12 year old (in private school since age 5.

House was purchased for $500k two decades ago and value hasn’t moved much.About $700k. We’ve done $200k worth of improvements. New everything. We paid off our mortgage 5 years ago.

I would like to upgrade because I think our area is getting worse. DH is ok with that but wants to not spend a penny more than what we get for this house. I think we could afford a small mortgage even with private for a couple more years till middle. Sure we won’t save much but that’s OK. The houses I am looking at are about $1.2M.

Sigh. How pathetic is your life that you know you’re rich but yet pretend dramatically that you’re poor, fishing for other people to boost your self-esteem and validate how rich you actually are?

HHI $2.7M (all but $125k) is investment income
House $7.5M (bought for $3M 10 years ago, put in $2M)
3 kids in public school

That’s hard to believe. Two people HHI is $125k and over a quarter million dollars a year from investments?!!

38M per year invested turning a 6-7% profit would get these numbers. And it’s 2.575M from investments.

Obviously sold a business or inherited.

I sold a business for about $10M and the rest was accumulated assets while I had the business. Plus time. None is inherited or received as a gift.

Buffet has a 6,500 square foot house so it’s not exactly nothing (it is in fact one of the nicest in Omaha). He also sold in 2018 his vacation house in Lavinia beach for $7.5M. Today it would fetch $10M-$15M.

Given his wealth I do not think that is opulent, but it’s not humble either.

Buffett's house in Omaha is actually listed on Zillow. Last I checked, it was worth $1.3M so, yes, that's very humble when you're worth $100,000,000,000+. Hell, half of DCUM lives in a more expensive house.

The beach house was bought for his first wife to move into when they separated in the 1970s. If you know Buffett, he probably kept that after her death as much for sentimental reasons as anything else. As a Republican, I don't like his political views (and I think he is guilty of some hypocrisy there), but his personal lifestyle is unquestionably frugal.

I shared but I’m not sure that it helps you in any way. Will your health issues mean higher expenses in retirement? Do you know how you will deal with elder care expenses? You guys are definitely fine but doubling the cost of your house may not be the wisest decision. Sure you won’t lose the money exactly but it will be tied up. Can you find a lower priced option in a neighborhood you like? Your kid is in private school so the schools are not an issue.

OP - why bother on here? It doesn't take a math genius to figure out 90% of these posts are outright lies (not sure why people lie on a anonymous forum, but so be it). The above post is classic...unless there is family month then it's impossible for most of the numbers here to make sense. Move on, talk to real people or a financial planner.
