| I wasn't involved in the whole "DCUM should just be for DC" debate recently and I don't care one bit about whether the D.C. housewives live in McLean or Chevy Chase, but I do wonder about people who in daily life say, "I live in Washington, D.C." or "I'm from D.C." when really they live somewhere else. I grew up in a close suburb of Atlanta and when people ask where I'm from and I don't think they'd know the town, I say "near Atlanta" or "right outside of Atlanta" or something like that. That seems more precise and just as easy and convenient to explain. |
Didn't you mention Parma on the other thread? Are you from there or just like the sound of the word? The surrounding burbs ONLY exist because DC does. If DC didn't exist, there would be no sprawl. Why don't you just say you're from Arlington or Bethesda or wherever? |
| Do the RHONY live in Englewood or Greenwich? No, that's what I thought. |
' No, because it's NY, and there's more "there" there. |
Nope. There must be two of us 'Parma' quoters. I am not the one from above, I'm the other one . I am orig from DC--Georgetown. I am a recent transplant Arlington.
And, you know what? Arlington used to be part of DC. So your argument is a stupid one anyway. So--- are you from Parma or Little Rock? |
| I'm from here. Sitting in my living room in zip code 20007. |
Then, it's quite possible we know each other. Are you Burleith, Glover Park or Georgetown 20007? |
I don't otherwise have the stomach for this argument (again) and have no interest in the show, but really? This is not normally the case, and certainly not as by-the-square-foot prices go. |

Can we please get back on the topic of Housewives?!
Why is the name 'housewives' in the title when some of the 'housewives' on some of the shows have never been married, are single women without children? When does the first episode air? Has anyone else seen filming? They were filming at the Ritz in Georgetown when I was over there. Anyone else see them? |
Are you the one that was in the fight with Tenleytown? |
"DC area" is what I commonly here people say. I live in Arlington and if I am talking to somebody from out of state I say 'DC area'....if I am talking to somebody from a completely different country I will say "WashingtonDC" because somebody from Warsaw or Berlin or Kiev isn't going to necessarily know wth Arlington is. You seem to have a real stick up your a** about the whole thing. Another candidate for the DC flag forehead tatoo... |
| No, that was my neighbor. And she won! |
I really don't have a stick up my ass about it. That's the first time I've ever weighed in on this debate (which I agree is silly) and "D.C. area" seems like just what I would say, very similar to what I would say when I lived near Atlanta, so I think you and I are on the same page. |
| Real Housewives of DC will do just great-if the DC Metro area isn't the venue for bitchy self-important women I don't know what is. The whole discussion of where these women hail from is sort of irrelevant when you consider that most of the Real Housewives series should be considered a tutorial in how women should not treat each other. I have to admit that I have had a rather salacious interest in the back stabbing that goes on, especially in NY, but the word reality as associated with these types of programs is pretty scary. Doesn't matter if we're talking about women of DC who live in McLean, or women any other place; the only purpose these programs might serve other than mindless entertainment is how banal and unsupportive we can be as females and how we can rise above that. |
