Landon School Reputation?

Hopefully the school will address issues related to the Gamers. This is a group that seems to fly under the radar at Landon.

This is a group of fairly soft and paunchy kids that aren’t particularly good at anything except video games. They spend most of their off-time playing Halo, Grand Theft Auto, and a variety of other violent and sexually explicit video games. They also spend a fair amount of time harassing people. They all seem to have Grand Theft Auto alter egos.

They can be a pretty nasty bunch.

We attended a choir concert at the National Cathedral attended by about twelve schools. We unfortunately sat next to the Landon choir who during the performance were talking, laughing, lounging with their legs on chairs and generally acting boorish. I got up twice, walked over and asked them to quiet down. The Landon Choir Director in charge just shrugged his shoulders when I asked for some help with the lack of decorum. My subsequent letters to the Head of School and the Dean of Students both went unanswered so I know who helps cultivate these poor manners. They are probably both dealing with bad press generated from the lacrosse murder trial. Avoid Landon!

Shocking! A group of boys did not want to stay still during a church service. Wow! Get a life!

Ok, well Halo is not that bad. I let my 10 year old play it and I am a control freak about violent games. Kids need a release for violent impulses both physically and mentally.

Not surprising, it comes from their parents/defenders too.

Really, the more the Landon community posts, the deeper the hole gets.

I'm amazed at the physical transformation of George Huguely. The photos today show a someone who once looked like a hulking bully, now looks like a scared little kid.

I am the P that expressed such shock. I have nothing to do with Landon, attended another local private myself, and my son attends even another one. The idea that a group of boys might act less than perfect at a church service bothers me none. Did noboby here sit in the back row in any class? Does everybody here have perfect kids who say yes to everything, sit still when asked? What bores? Personally, I remember spending most of my time in church service in the back room with the other ushers. Some say I turned out okay, having attended a top local high school, one of the top liberal arts schools in the country, and a top 10 graduate school.

Don't you think that's part of the defense's strategy? He was just a boy. (read: you can't send him away for the rest of his life.) "Acting goofy" when drunk the defense offered today. Couldn't have been premeditated he said yesterday. "He's just a dumb lacrosse player."

We have a son at Landon. He is not a jock. He is an artist and is celebrated for his talents. He is thoughtful, well-spoken, polite, and is very happy that he decided to transfer to Landon. To the OP, if your question is a serious one, there are people that hate this school or that school and you will find lots of people willing to engage with you on an thread like this. If you really want to know about a school, talk to parents and families that actually go there. And who will speak to you without hiding behind a cloack of anonimity. I can only speak for our family and our son: I was honestly nervous a bit at first about Landon because of threads like this one, and am glad I trusted my gut. We have been incredibly happy with our decision. I'm glad we didn't listen to the buzz and insteadf made a decision that we felt was right for our son. I'm sure you will do the same.

I actually don't understand his defense strategy. I can't tell if he is denying beating her or denying that he intended to beat her to death.

And, don't kid yourself, HG is always and forever going to be associated with Landon. You can move this thread to a new heading but it will be the same topic
