| is this a real post? It is July.... |

| If you want your son to have the best academic preparation for college, Potomac is the better option. At both schools the students come from all around DC, MD and VA. If your son can handle the academics at Potomac, it would be foolish to turn it down in favor of Landon. If your family would prefer a less rigorous academic environment and a more intense athletic school, then Landon might be a better fit. |
|
I agree with an earlier post about Georgetown Prep. If that is truly an option for you still, seriously consider it. From an all round standpoint, it is one of the finest school's in the area.
|
I'm sorry, but you must be misinformed. Landon's academics and college placement are superior to Potomac's. |
| Why do people quibble over tiny differences? Landon and Potomac have similar college placement stats. |

Interesting and insightful perspective re Landon different from what we've been seeing lately:

| Troll is posting the Landon article --- it's not an objective view, it is an article by a Landon parent. Not that they shouldn't have a say, but it is particularly sad that the school can't figure out a way to address issues and self-help of a parent is required. (BTW - author - I am not impressed that the LAX coach has been enveloped in that environment for all but 4 years at Princeton ... SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE - please get that ... my son wants to attend Landon). |
| 23:32 If you took the time and spoke with the school instead of going on a forum, you would find out the school is making changes which are being worked on with parents and communicated to the Landon community. |
| Perhaps those changes should be shared with more than just "the Landon community." That is, if public perception and reputation are important to the Landon community. |
How would you recommend that they do that without looking pathetic? |
All at Landon are not bad. I've heard some of the most aggressive parents of the piggiest guys critique Landon guys/parents/behavior. |
| If you ask me, I think the whole Landon thing gets blowed out of proportion. I happen to know quite a few Landon boys and they are all a batch of boys who are confident and polite in the things they do. They range from boys who are either academically successful or athletically strong. It is unfortunate that Landon is receiving all of this negative press because honestly, it could happen at any school. Even at my DC's school. Yes the school's reputation is bad, but from what i've heard, Landon seems to be really reflecting and changing. |
But, um, it *doesn't* happen at other schools. We only hear these things about Landon. Repeatedly. |
| You have no idea if things happen at other schools. Do you have connections to every private school in the DC area and what disciplinary issues they have faced? Yes Landon is going through a bad time but please don't pretend that every other school is perfect. it just hasn't hit the press. And before I get flamed about George Huguely, we are talking about specific disciplinary actions that Landon has or has not taken with current faculty and staff. |
