| My son has been recently accepted into the Landon School and other schools but I seem to be sold on Landon. How is its reputation around the area in terms of academics, athletics, the boys themselves, and their reputation in the community? How does it compare to schools such as Sidwell, Potomac, Georgetown Prepatory? Thanks. |

OP, here are several links to get you started with your research ...
Landon forum: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/forums/show/49.page Several Landon posts: http://fwd4.me/Uw3 Private school forum: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/forums/show/31.page |
| My son is an Upper School student at Landon, and we have been very pleased with his progress, growth, and accomplishments. He has truly become a young man of character, and is a self-motivated student, athlete and musician. The faculty is stellar, and truly cares about its students as individuals. I highly recommend Landon School. |
| Enough of the Landon questions, if you applied and got accepted etc, you have done your research. If you are second guessing your decision then you made the wrong choice. |
| If you and your ds are sold on Landon, then why are you posting the question? |
| Thank you thus far on all of the information. However, for the last two people who replied, I am simply comparing schools at the moment. I am sold on Landon, but my wife is sold on the Potomac School. I needed some more opinions and thoughts about Landon because all of this bad media which Landon is receiving, I want to make sure it is a school which my son is going to enjoy for the next four years of his life. |

If I were you, I would go with the Potomac School. Landon's reputation is in the toilet right now.
|
| If your ds is an athlete, go to Landon. If he isn't, then I'd change courses. It really is that simple--athletes and their families rule the school. Potomac is a great school and the other options are beyond terrific. Landon does not compare to any of the other choices in terms of academics or opportunities beyond athletics. |

Potomac School is very Virginia oriented. If you live in Maryland, most of their friends will be in Virginia. If they are younger, that means you will be driving to VA for playdates, get togethers, etc. Not sure what school you are going to but my friend has been very disappointed in her son's preparation for HS in the middle school at Potomac. She has 2 boys in the US and she really feels her MS ids s not ready for HS.

| Wait a minute. It's July. Shouldn't you have committed by now? |
| I have "committed" to Landon already, but I have the option of opting out because of the refund policy. I have also spoke to Potomac and they said that they'd be willing to enroll my child until a certain deadline which is coming up. |
| Could you tell us a little about your son (types of sports, other interests, academic strengths) and what you and your wife feel is important about his education? |
| OP, you mentioned Georgetown Prep. If that's indeed an option, you'd be crazy to pass it up for Landon or Potomac. |
|
OP: please read your tuition refund policy carefully, I believe that you need to attend at least two weeks prior to withdrawing. Based on school contract terms and refund insurance, if you leave now you will be on the hook for Landon's tuition for 10-11, plus a comparable amount from Potomac. Schools are generally not lenient on this issue when the move is purely discretionary.
