global entry turn around time

I renewed and only took a few weeks.

New application in April, conditionally approved within a week. I did the enrollment interview at Dulles while departing on an international flight last week. Near gate B41, no wait and no appointment. Final approval received a couple days later. I used it, with the GE mobile app, to reenter at Dulles this weekend. Got through customs with no wait whatsoever. Totally worth it.

Less than 48 hour turn around for a new application. But, I’m a Fed with a lower level security clearance.

Yes we had 4 international trips in the last 12 months and it is worth it

The lines to re-enter the USA can be long, and Global Entry also includes TSA Pre benefits. If you travel 1-2x a year internationally, I would say it's definitely worth it.

Applied 4 weeks ago for renewal and just got notification that I’m approved. Do I still need to do anything else or am I done?

I don't know what airport you're flying into that you have no lines whatsoever, but I've definitely experienced lines of 45 minutes plus with cranky children after long flights and for me global entry is worth it.

Yep. We barely travel internationally, once every few years or so. But it doesn't cost that much more than TSA Pre, which we would want anyway. Also, starting this October (2024) kids under 18 will be free with a parent who has GE. You still have to do the application, it's not automatic like TSA for kids, but you will no longer have to pay the application fee for kids then.

interesting, how does that work? We all applied for GE at the same time in fall 2019 and me and the kids were approved right away, but it took a year for DH to be approved. The expiration dates align with our birthdays, so mine will expire about 6 months before the kids' expire, and the kids' will expire about 6 months before my DH's. So do we all apply for our renewals at the same time even though mine is expiring 6 month to a year before the others?

They haven't updated the system yet, but I don't think you will all have to renew at the same time to get the free kids GE, for the reasons you stated. My suspicion is that inside a kid's account, there will be a place where you can connect it to your account to note that they are the child of someone who already has GE, and that will flag the child's account as being free. We will see in October. FYI the renewal window opens exactly one year before your expiration date, and it doesn't matter when you renew as long as you do so within that one year window- your new expiration date will get pushed out exactly 5 years from your current expiration date.

Whatever you do don’t let it expire. Took almost a year to renew😟

Thanks so much for the info about the expiration date! Mine is expiring in a few months but I had been waiting to renew since I always end up losing about 9 months of time on our passports bc of the need to renew so far in advance of expiration. Nice to know that's not an issue with GE.

I hadn’t realized it was 5, not 10, and discovered my GE had expired a few weeks after the date in spring ‘21. Applied within the day and was fairly stressed that for the next year or so, my family would be in the TSA line and and I would be in the reg line forever. We took our first flight in COVID in late June 2021 and family split accordingly. On return, I made my way through the long
line to TSA to learn that my GE had been approved while on our trip. Then the agent told me, I would have to go to the TSA Pre line now, refused to allow me to continue, and pointed me to the other line.

Ridiculous but at least it was renewed w/in a month.
