You mean the losers. |

If you read the full Reddit thread, you'll find that others who had their cars stolen had no issue getting the camera tickets canceled.
This particular poster received a horrible and incompetent administrative judge. In fact, the judge violated DC's own laws which explicitly states that owners of stolen vehicles will not be liable for the tickets so long as the vehicle is reported stolen. So yeah, this was a case of a horrible administrative judge who should be removed from practice and retrained. This is really why I dislike social media: it elevates edge cases to the public discourse and makes it seem as if that's actually the norm. It's not, and it's a terrible idea to let edge cases direct policy or public views. Vast majority of people with a stolen car get their tickets canceled, but no one wants to talk about that. |
Exactly. You should never be critical of government when it screws up. We should ignore poor performance, unless it's LEOs. |
This is hardly comforting for the person who has to go through it, though. If my car was stolen and the judge made me jump through crazy hoops to get tickets on it dismissed I would be pissed and would not care that MOST people don't have to go through it. It isn't as if he did nothing- he took a police report to the hearing and fit the burden of proof to get is dismissed. |
Losers get treated like suckers. Winners for whatever tf they want with zero consequences. |
Do they, though? Because one of my favorite things to do is look up random DC tags to see how much the owner owes in tickets and rarely do I find 1) a vehicle that has no tickets or 2) a total due that is less than a few thousand dollars. And these fines always seem to be very, very old. Hell, look at that car that killed 3 people last month that had over $12k in tickets! |
When Marion Barry was still Mayor-for-Life, the DC government tried to get the public and local media to be more positive about the dysfunctional city. The slogan was "Stop Trashin' DC!" Of course, the DC government did a poor job then picking up the actual trash in DC. |
Sorry but this is not an isolated incident. There is no end of these stories. https://www.wusa9.com/amp/article/news/investigati...e8-5ccd-4eb8-af35-2d46ed924b25 https://www.dcnewsnow.com/news/local-news/money/ca...d-skyrocketing-car-thefts/amp/ https://wjla.com/amp/features/i-team/investigation...m-criminals-who-took-their-car |
It redistributes from rich people who own cars to poor people who steal them - equity win! |
Some, not matter how small, percentage of tickets are paid. Ergo, issuing more tickets means more revenue. If more people stop paying, just issue even more tickets. I think that's actually the current plan. |
No one has to pay tickets in DC. Because, racism. |
