Congratulations for being one of those narcissistic people who believe that if it hasn’t happened to you that it never happens. There is no end of these stories. https://www.wusa9.com/amp/article/news/investigations/dc-hasnt-forgiven-tickets-car-got-when-it-was-stolen/65-d6b951e8-5ccd-4eb8-af35-2d46ed924b25 https://www.dcnewsnow.com/news/local-news/money/car-stolen-owner-sent-speeding-tickets-dc-womans-plea-amid-skyrocketing-car-thefts/amp/ https://wjla.com/amp/features/i-team/investigations/draft-carjacking-victims-told-to-pay-speeding-tickets-from-criminals-who-took-their-car |
There is no reason for out of state drivers to pay fines that DC refuses to judiciously adjudicate these cases. Why should any government voluntarily subject their citizens to this abuse of power? DC needs to be more responsible about ATE enforcement before there can be any talk about unpaid out of state fines. What they are doing right now is a joke and makes the city look very unserious. |
In states like Iowa and Nebraska, the farm bloc is very powerful with elected officials. In DC, some politicians openly cater to the "cell block." Not to mention, "someone's gotta pay the ticket" may be seen by certain DC Council members and government bureaucrats as advancing "equity." |
Has anyone fact checked these stories? These don't seem like real news organizations. /s |
The car owner likely has more money, so it is more equitable that they pay the ticket. |
That’s the only way to keep crime stats down. Didn’t you watch The Wire? |
Our local CBS and ABC networks aren't real organizations? |
| This happened when my license plate was stolen. Thrives put it on a stolen car, racked up speeding tickets that were then sent to me. I sent police reports that were not accepted as proof. It was an ordeal. I always felt the mentality in DC was to avoid inconveniencing people who broke the law but shrug when victims are inconvenienced by crime. |
*thieves |
I eventually got it dismissed but had to do the whole take multiple days off work, be told it was impossible and continue to be a pain in the ass for months on end to resolve it. |
| Well, the thieves are probably from VA or MD. Everyone knows THEY don't have to pay their tickets! |
DC and PG. |
Pretty much every city seems to operate like this. I’ve lived in DC, Detroit, Chicago, and Atlanta. |
What's on the metro? Scofflaws? Thugs? Both? |
Aren't you special. How many times in your 30 years have you been told "everything is not about YOU." |
