Emory is both significantly cheaper and more apt to produce a child who can settle down and have a family, because Georgia is a heck of a lot more conducive to that than California. Plus, at Emory, your kid is going to have a lot more faculty attention. At Stanford, that attention is going to be sucked up by grad students or undergrads who are even more prodigious. |
He's undecided but likes polisci and econ. So hopefully law so the ROI would be worth it. For Emory he would have to do business to get the scholarship, which is fine with me. He can double major if he really wants to. |
I would do Emery because Stanford is the arch enemy of Cal |
Thank you, just trying to convince my husband really. DS seems to almost be there, again he really like Emory. |
If your child is planning to do grad/professional school, that will matter much more in their career than undergrad. |
If he's likely to go on to do something like law school, save the money on undergrad. I think the graduate school degree in fields like law, business, etc. is more important than the undergrad degree. |
Oh! For either of those he'll need grad school to be taken seriously. Emory. |
It is hard to see how it will play out. I would say go with your gut. Would you regret dropping Stanford? Would you regret dropping Emory?
If it were us, we would certainly steer the kid in the direction of Stanford, global recognition, subject majors may change etc. If money were to be an issue, I would pay for the kiddo and ask him to pay us back with no interest that could either go towards paying a siblings college loans (assuming you would have to take out loans) or your retirement funds. |
It would be easier just to get a job as a janitor at Stanford for the tuition remission. The downside is your kid will walk past you and tell everyone, "I don't know this man!" It beats driving Uber at night. |
Given how difficult of a decision this is, I think you and DS should visit both schools if you haven't already.
If he's planning to go to law school afterwards, the money saved by going to Emory would be really helpful. |
Pay one semester at Stanford and have your kid drop out and start up a company. Jk! |
It shouldn't be this difficult. Obviously, it's Emery. |
You know... didn't think of this. |
You would also save law school tuition! lol |
Emory business major really don't need grad school. |
