Have to fill those seats especially with budget being a big deal. Fifteen slots for 10th grade at Banneker! Didn't expect that many. I'd be calling right now. |
But if you look at the data, you'll see that last year LAMB make 14 PK4 offers on lottery day, but 13 of the 14 were actually transfers from one campus to the other. Similarly, the 5 K offers made last year were only to allow for transfers from one campus to another. So it's not actually as different as it looks. Plus there will likely be some attrition and some lottery seats offered. |
Last year LAMB Kingsbury made 14 PK4 offers, 13 transfers and one no preference. LAMB SD made 11 PK4 offers, all no preference. So we've gone from 25 PK4 offers (13 transfers and 12 no preference), to 8 total (all no preference). The advice on the previous thread was still wrong, they're not offering anywhere near the combined number of last year's offers across both campuses. There are 50% fewer spots offered. |
Ok, inviting rampant speculation here but why not.
Waitlists for the schools we lotteried for are definitely shorter than last year (looking at K for a bunch of schools on the Hill and some charters in Edgewood/Brookland). But we obviously got a very bad lottery number as we are dead last or almost last on literally every single list. Normally I think our lottery number would lock us out of most of these schools (places like Ludlow, Maury, Brent, Lee Montessori, ITS) but given that the waitlists are shorter overall, do you think that might speak to an overall lower demand for spots at schools and thus mean some of these schools might actually clear waitlists even if in previous years they hadn't? I guess I'm just looking for a sliver of hope, feel free to dash them. Just trying to think of some way in which maybe we still stand a chance at any of these schools as OOB, no sibling applicants with a bad lotto number. |
They offered more pk3 and less pk4 than last year. They went from 62 to 75 in pk3. It looks like they are filing the spots with pk3 students. |
This is common with LAMB. Their PK students all share a classroom and they prefer to backfill with PK3 students so they can start them out in Montessori with their system instead of acclimating PK4 or K students who are coming either from non-Montessori environments or from other Montessori schools. All the Montessori schools do this to some degree but LAMB has always been more aggressive about it, perhaps because of the immersion aspect. |
The K class on the Hill is REALLY small. Schools don't know yet quite how small, but you can already see them hedging by offering more seats than usual in the initial match. Brent offered 18 vs 1 last year; Maury 12 v 0; L-T15 v 7). Since they're counting on new people to fill those seats, I think the WLs will move way more than usual. Also, I think the class is even smaller than they hedged against and there is a good chance of substantial movement. |
^^ Also how bad is your number? Brent made 58 K offers last year... |
They are really bad for most of these schools -- in the 80s for Brent and 90s for Maury. We are high 30s for L-T which had me hopeful but now I see their waitlist only goes to 40, so pretty bad! Just kind of holding out hope that maybe the shorter waitlists overall indicate fewer people entered the lottery, which might make some of these lists move faster than in previous years as people get into other schools they might desire more. Right now I think our best shot is at Lee Brookland because it looks like they made a lot of offers last year and their list is not as long (also hoping some people might not want to start Montessori at K, though some might be coming from Montessori privates like we are, I just have no idea how many). |
Are we still dealing with a demographic downturn? Does anyone know total applications year over year? |
Would love to know this. When do they usually release it? |
Nice to see we really are almost dead last on the Basis list. So frustrating. |
I'm really sorry, PP. If it's any consolation, BASIS is really not a great fit for a lot of kids. You may have dodged a bullet there. |
This was me! Someone made a snotty comment about "why was I surprised" we got into Maury OOB. I feel so vindicated. |
Would you be able to accept a CBO ( such as communikids) spot as a backup and then switch if we get an offer to one of our top dcps choices?
