Waitlist Data Posted

Wow. BASIS made 150 seats available. Where are they going to put all those kids?!
Anonymous
My general takeaway-- waitlists are much much much shorter than they had been in the past.

Not at Latin and DCI.

Why did Latin offer 20 less seats this year than last for 5th grade?

They don’t have to fill them all. Some people will say “no thanks,” so they could effectively be moving the first N students from their waitlist to the match day pile. It’s easier than managing a waitlist and probably helps with yield (because people on the waitlist are more likely to commit to other options than people who match).

McKinley Tech offered 300 seats, probably with a similar strategy.

But who cares about yield? This isn't USNWR college rankings

They care about yield because they want to make sure their class fills up. Because they won't backfill, an empty seat costs them money for years to come.

Because they offered those seats through the Equitable Access Preference.

It makes it easier for the school. There is less scrambling and waiting to fill a spot off the waitlist. Plus it locks down students earlier in the process so they can get involved in all the admitted student activities etc.

What schools/grades are you looking at when you say that?

They did that in SY 21/22. Doesn’t seem out of the norm.
