Not impressed with Nashville unless you love country music. Food mostly fried |
Choose bet Vandy and Wustl. Throw out NW - competitive environment, cold, not-so-good neighborhood (Evanston), and frankly its econ dept is a bit overshadowed by UChicago |
Northwestern: good academics, near Chicago, in a blue state. |
If DC is a very type A personality, then go to Northwestern which is more competitive than collaborative |
Yeah, mayor Lightfoot has done a wonderful job with Chicago ![]() |
This is so funny to me as someone who has lived in Chicago. The North Shore (made up of like 6-7 suburbs, one of which is Evanston) is one of the richest areas in the entire country. Saw more old money there than Potomac! |
I’d never let my kids go near chicago |
Maybe 10 years ago perhaps, but not according to recent crime statistics. |
According to the alternate ranking below (based on professor quality, diversity, student happiness), Northwestern (#2) and Vanderbilt (#13) are quite a bit stronger than Wash U (#90).

Northwestern, hands down. And Evanston is a great college town. Tons of shops and restaurants in walking distance from campus. |
There is no "hands down" with any of these three. Each has it's pros and cons and its own vibe. Check it out for yourself. |
evanston is safer than new haven but i’ve never heard of people refusing to send their kids to yale due to crime |
Northwestern is not Yale my friend |
Why would the ranking of undergraduate school rankings be important when OP's kid doesn't want to study business, and at least one school on the list (NU) doesn't have an undergraduate business school? |
big pass on Northwestern - DC did an overnight and two full days talking to students and attending classes. In her words, really wanted to luv it - but she said easily the most miserable kids she’s ever met - campus just had an unhappy vibe. could be great for others, not my DC |
