How to discretely purchase personal items?

Oh, then Amazon, definitely. Never got put on any mailing list or anything.

I usually buy from those ethical, women-owned companies and have never gotten mail that suggested they had sold my info, but I'd way rather get catalogs than stand in line at walmart with a vibrator.

+1 on Lovehoney. Discrete packaging that isn't at all identifiable. My DH and I both ordered from them for Christmas and we have not had as single catalog show up. And like another PP said, no emails or ads.

Discreet hahaha, although I suppose the packaging is also discrete. I'm correcting myself in the PP not OP's headline but I suppose really correcting us both

Bingo… There are a few stores out there that sell personal toys. If you’re that worried, there’s one on Route 50 just outside Ocean City. If you run into anyone you know that far away from your location, you were not meant to have a personal toy! 😁

There's a bunch of these stores in the DMV area, just like the one outside OC.

These businesses don't go for paper catalogs, OP. It's far cheaper for them, and more efficient at the same time, to ensure you get junk email and pop-up ads after your purchase, rather than spend money on snail mail marketing. I wouldn't worry about actual in-your-mailbox junk mail from any of them.

This. I've ordered from them for years and never once received any kind of marketing. I think the charge on the card is also very discrete, too. The box the items come in is plain without any markings. The ship from name is very generic, too, not A&E.

This occurred to me, too...I would be that one person in the Target self-checkout whose register messed up scanning my new toy, and then the assistant would stroll over to see what was going on.... (jk)

I just bought incredibly thin Japanese-made condoms on Amazon. They are much thinner than the ones sold at CVS and Walgreens. They appear on my list of recent orders, so anyone seeing my recent orders would know. I may "archive" them but the archive isn't especially hidden. I'm divorced so not that big a deal that I buy condoms, but I still would not want my kids to see them.

Go with one of the indies -- they won't spam you with catalogs.

Oh Joy Sex Toy is a great review blog and will have links.

Do you pay with gift cards instead of a credit card that is linked to your name?

No. I’m not trying to hide from spouse. I started doing this after I bought some smut books and the ads started showing up on our Amazon family account. It took Amazon customer service a lot of escalations to get them removed.

I’m not the PP, but why on earth would you use gift cards like you’re buying something sketchy? If you want to buy a vibrator, buy one. If you don’t want it delivered to your house, fine, do the locker. But you’re a grown up. If you can’t use your regular payment methods, consider whether you should be buying what you’re buying.

The gift card question makes me wonder if OP wants to hide the purchase from her spouse by keeping the transaction off of the credit card.

OP--? Is that the case?

Have your AP order it!

Their privacy policy specifically states that they might use your address for marketing purposes.

The personally identifiable information you provide may include the following information, which we use as indicated below:

Name — used for order fulfillment and marketing
Date of Birth — used to ensure that you are a legal adult
Mailing, Shipping and Billing Addresses — used for order fulfillment and marketing
Email Address — used for order status communication and marketing
Telephone Number(s) — used for order status communication and marketing
Credit Card or Debit Card Number — used for payment for orders

I've bought from them numerous times and they have never sent anything other than my items in an unmarked package to my home.
