So yes, DCPS has low class sizes relative to other districts. My child has never been in a classroom with more than 20 students. Also never been in a classroom with out a teacher's aid. How many suburban elementary schools is that true of?

I also wanted to note that not only is my child getting a terrific education in DCPS, I know MANY wonderful graduates of DCPS and none of them are inmates of any kind. The are feds, lawyers, teachers, nurses, they are great parents and involved community members. So many of you talking out of your a$$ about DC schools don't live here, don't have kids in the district, and don't actually interact with anyone who works, attends, or graduated from DCPS. I believe that the comment on DCPS is intended for its current state - which is abysmal at best. But you have every right to hope for the best.

And knowing a lot about schools in both places, I find it amusing that many DCUMers are outraged at the suggestion that Alabama schools might be better than DC schools. Fact is, DCPS is pretty crappy.

And knowing a lot about schools in both places, I find it amusing that many DCUMers are outraged at the suggestion that Alabama schools might be better than DC schools. Fact is, DCPS is pretty crappy.

I’m familiar with Homewood and although I don’t personally know about the schools, I’d guess they’re pretty good.

This is not true at every DCPS title 1 school. I work in a DCPS title 1 middle school and classes definitely have more than 20 students. A lot more.

This is not true at every DCPS title 1 school. I work in a DCPS title 1 middle school and classes definitely have more than 20 students. A lot more.

Certainly, some DCPS schools are failing but not all. Not by a long shot. So not only is his statement inaccurate, but he just called all DCPS students inmates. What an awful thing for an elected member of Congress to say about children.
