Could you live without peanut butter?

Anonymous
DD loves it, and it’s so convenient. I think it’s very much an acquired taste. Like one of the PP, I wasn’t raised here and don’t like it. I’ve never tasted Nutella either.

Then I suppose we should all stop the hypocrisy of complaining about school lunches since the bar is so low and that's what you all feed your kids at home anyway.

I haven’t had peanut butter for years so, yes, I could live without.

I understand it's many people's favorite food. But to eat it everyday and consider it a meal? I can't think of anything I would want to eat everyday. I certainly eat Nutella often as a kid, but it was an after school snack, in addition to 2 balanced meals, and not everyday.

It might be hard to fathom, but not all people are the same. Some people like to eat the same thing everyday.

It's nice that your meal choices are above all reproach. How's the rarified air up there?

Cool story. Seriously, what are your favorite foods? Doesn’t matter if you eat it every day or not.

Of course I could, as I rarely ever eat peanut butter or think about peanut butter or cook with peanut butter.

Eating better than PB sandwich is living in "rarified air"?

Food of the gods - I inly eat natural and chunky. Delicious on an apple for a snack, or a spoonful out of the jar when you are famished. I would not be happy to never have it again

Why do you all eat so much peanut butter? There's a thread about odd food combinations and 90% of the suggestions are peanut butter + something. Most of them sound disgusting. In another thread people lamenting that you can't bring a jar of peanut butter on a plane. Let's not even talk about all the posts about "my kids will only eat PB or string cheese", "I have to bring PB to the park or my child will starve". My own SIL feeds her kids a PB sandwich every single day for lunch, even at home and on the weekends. Dinner is usually ramen noodles. Yuck. I can't think an equivalent in other cultures that people have to bring everywhere as an emotional support food. It's not like the French are bringing their own camembert on a plane.

What does SIL’s spouse feed their children?

No because without peanut butter I think my child would starve herself to death.

It’s cheap
It’s easy to find
It’s easy to make a pb sandwich
It’s nutritionally good

But since I have to pay attention, I notice how often it's eaten and how many people need to bring it everywhere and cannot think of something else to feed their child. It's odd because I have never thought "oh I wish I could pack a PB sandwich". And I never feel like we don't have enough tasty options to choose from.

I don’t even particularly like peanut butter but your judgment about people feeding it to their kids a lot is off base. You have your parenting challenges, I get it. But my biggest challenge is that my kid won’t eat anything. I mean it’s just a daily struggle. I truly think it’s genetic because apparently my DH was like this as a kid, like to the point that his parents would be in tears trying to get him to eat. I’ve definitely cried over trying to feed my kid. That sounds so dramatic I’m sure but I just cannot describe to you how hard it is when your child just won’t eat anything.

But she’ll eat peanut butter or sun butter or wow butter (look, I don’t want to endanger other kids with allergies, I’m not trying to be a jerk here). It’s basically the one protein source she will eat reliably. I do pack her sun butter and jelly sandwiches pretty much every day because she’ll eat it. I used to try different things but she won’t eat it, and then she’s hungry, and then every one is miserable.

Im sorry but peanut butter is a magic food for kids like mine. Again, I don’t even like it! But yeah my kid has it basically daily and I think your judgment of that f***ing sucks because judging someone for feeding their kid is stupid. Im not sitting here steaming about what you feed your kid. I don’t really care, I figure you have your reasons, it’s not my business.

You need to grow up and learn to stay in your lane.

Are there actual people that just eat peanut butter for a meal and nothing else?
Anonymous
No! It’s the most perfect food, my favorite since childhood would NEVER want to live without it. But not just any peanut butter- Crazy Richard’s natural, or Krema in the Midwest - the best peanut butter going. Nothing in it but peanuts, but they source the sweetest nuts you won’t believe there isn’t any added sugar. Yes it must be stirred but it’s worth the effort and if you keep it in the fridge you’ll only need to stir it once. Yum!!
