Are you suggesting they are commiting crimes in the city? |
You're misreading that data - it is apples to apples because it compares the same number of months from the current vs. previous year. However, that should not detract too much from the fact that we are on an upward trajectory and we are on track to have the worst firearm homicides in 20 years. Don't forget DC doesn't even keep track of ASSAULTS. My guess is violent crimes WITHOUT weapons have gone through the roof, but we will never know and that's how DC wants it. |
No, I am saying that, having decided to leave DC, they have to exaggerate everything that is wrong with DC (and lord knows, its not perfect) to continually justify that decision in their minds. I know that people in the burbs are going to read this and get all defensive about it, but its plain as day here on DCUM. |
And I know plenty of people that saw DC for the horribly managed stressful clusterfk that it is, moved to other cities, and have not once regretted their decisions. |
|
There are also certain inconveniences in cities that many people who moved here in the last 10-15 years think are specific to DC - we can always work to do better as a community but acting like rats, litter, crime, etc.. are particular to DC is out of touch
Personally i think it started with the redevelopment of Logan Circle when it was sold as if people were moving to Bethesda Row and then they were upset that that was not the case |
| Bad schools, bad healthcare, crime, lack of affordable housing. Take your pick. |
| Sometimes it is the local politicians setting the stage to run for office. They create a hoopla about an issue then campaign on a promise to fix it. |
Typical, make a compliant. Say facts aren't facts, let someone post a source refuting the original comment, then quickly move the goal post to "BUT Crime is bad everywhere."

You’re misinterpreting the data. It’s as of today’s date last year vs. as of today’s date last year. So as of 3/21/22 DC had 42 homicides and as of 3/21/23 DC has had 45 homicides. The chart right below the one you are referencing shows that 2022 had 203 total homicides. |
You completely missed the point |
I don’t think most people are arguing that all of these issues are specific to DC. I’ve been here since the days when the city couldn’t even manage regular trash pickup. But the thought that we’re not supposed to acknowledge the problems, or be told to head out to Ashburn and enjoy Applebees, is ridiculous. |
| Yeah; that’s what us people are doing. Painting DC in bad light. I’m livid (as I hear illegal ATVs revving up to disrupt my kids from their homework). DC should be a Paris or Copenhagen but is instead a shithole. |
|
I mean I was like there’s a flower and there’s a tree,
there’s a gun and an ATV, and is that old guy going to pee on me?! |
|
The answer is, I kid you not, center of DC, a resounding yes!
I send a thank you card to No-Do |
Baltimore has ATV problems too. /s |
