hayfield secondary school

I think teachers like him more than the kids and maybe that's a good thing. My kids are honors/AP kids who never get in trouble so it doesn't matter to them one way or the other but happy teachers = more stability/less attrition. We're white but really like the diversity the school has to offer. It's not heavily anything. We didn't love being a transfer family when we had to drive to school everyday but now that my oldest has a license, we couldn't be happier having transfered the kids to Hayfield.

So why transfer? To avoid IB?

He is on honers classes for math, sience .. English is our second language but its realy easy for him to understand.
As I wrote, we are from all white European country, capital city, and still it was strange at first how much different nations and races is in the school and in the neighborhood. But, neighborhood is soooo welcoming, so nice, and about school-my son, who was straight A student back home, and still is - he loves his teachers, he said that they're great-he loves how they teach and how they communicate with students. He doesn't talk about different races and nations at all-he doesn't see that. And I'm so happy because of that.
I was on Back to school night, and every teacher knew who is my son, they could talk about him-it's so great 'couse they are really big school.
My only problem is, so far, school program, but I think that is a difference between European and American schools in general. He had so much more classes, homeworks in our country ...
So, my conclusion is, for now, that the middle school in Hayfield Secondary is really ok. It's up to you or your kid.
if it is a knowledge what is important to you, your child can get it if he wants.

And your skin color.

Why are you posting snark in the middle of the night?

Hayfield is a diverse school. It's not irrelevant for people to know that, despite the culture shock that someone coming from a largely White country in Europe might experience, PP's kids have found their home at Hayfield.

No one would bat an eye if a Black poster asked if their Black kids would be comfortable at some schools in FCPS. Same grace should apply when a White poster acknowledges their background.

It's a secondary school. That means grades 7 through 12 in the same school building.

Our oldest went there 7th through 10th, it was a fine school. Teachers were hit or miss, but that's everywhere. There is a military base a few miles away (Fort Belvoir) so there are kids of military families always coming and going. That is not uncommon in the DC area, though. If your kids are on the honors tracks (mine was) then they will float in those circles.

The sheer expense of residing in Fairfax County does amplify the differentiation between the students who seem to have everything (high-priced private sports clubs, expensive on-brand clothes, a single-family home instead of a townhome, private tutors) vs. those who don't have those things because their parents cannot afford them. This disparity is everywhere in the county, so be prepared. Might be even worse in north county schools.

Kingstowne was nice, I miss all the stores being close by. The traffic on Telegraph Rd. can be insane. I always avoided it as much as possible in the early mornings and late afternoons.

We moved out of the area half way through high school, so I cannot give you the four-year view.

amen to that.

Neither are good schools for Fairfax County. Google best high schools in Fairfax County. You can still live close to DC in a different area to get a better school for your children. At the least, try to get Edison.

Agreed.

Love that area of Alexandria, but we moved out before our kids hit high school.
