Our oldest went there 7th through 10th, it was a fine school. Teachers were hit or miss, but that's everywhere. There is a military base a few miles away (Fort Belvoir) so there are kids of military families always coming and going. That is not uncommon in the DC area, though. If your kids are on the honors tracks (mine was) then they will float in those circles.

The sheer expense of residing in Fairfax County does amplify the differentiation between the students who seem to have everything (high-priced private sports clubs, expensive on-brand clothes, a single-family home instead of a townhome, private tutors) vs. those who don't have those things because their parents cannot afford them. This disparity is everywhere in the county, so be prepared. Might be even worse in north county schools.

Kingstowne was nice, I miss all the stores being close by. The traffic on Telegraph Rd. can be insane. I always avoided it as much as possible in the early mornings and late afternoons.

We moved out of the area half way through high school, so I cannot give you the four-year view. [/quote]
