I asked that question on the last IG call.  Why defer 7,000 from EA only to accept ~100?  Even if half don't accept EA, that's still a ridiculously low percentage. Didn't really understand the response. [/quote]

No, not confusing. I meant to type "soft rejection".  She was deferred SCEA at Princeton; accepted Georgia Tech EA; accepted Purdue EA; accepted UVA EA; deferred Harvard, Yale, Cornell.  The deferrals automatically become waitlists. She didn't come off any waitlists.[/quote]

Deferrals are not automatically waitlisted. Plenty of kids who are deferred from ED/EA get outright rejections in the RD round. They are not all automatically moved to the waitlist.[/quote]
