Its pretty rare (although clearly it does happen) for someone to have a step child only 3 years older than their own child. Three years IS really quick to have a baby, seperate, divorce, find someone new, get married, get pregnant again and have the new baby.

I agree that the solution isn't figuring out how to explain something to a 2 year old.

I started to argue with this post and then really started doing the math in my head. Yep you are right.

My math says 5-year old Step son was 3 when the OP’s baby was born… or @2yo when OPs son was conceived.

Yup. So that is pretty quickly.
especially since it takes at least a year to divorce

For all we know her DH was never married to the baby mamma of the half-sibling.

Anyway, have another one so you 2 yo has a full time sibling?

So many assumptions in this thread.

Who said OP’s husband was married to the oldest son’s mother? Who’s to say that the mother of the oldest didn’t end it with OP’s husband? Either way it doesn’t matter.

OP, keep it simple. Step son is at his mom’s house, he’ll be back in x days. Larla is his birth mom and you’re his step mom by marriage. It won’t make much sense to a 2 year old but that’s the truth and it’s ok. You don’t need to go down a rabbit hole or over explain.

Then redirect your kid and ask him if he wants to do an activity or something.
