I was just about to ask that same question. Interested in this answer. |
This can vary widely by school: some substance-free dorms have a lot of kids who were put there as part of a rehab process and/or probation. Others it's mainly by choice. Others it's very mixed. The vibe--and compliance-- is going to be very different depending on the composition of the people. |
Anecdotally? |
This sounds like the most ridiculous excuse ever that a kid gave for losing an internship. Parents will believe anything, I guess. |
I hope this catches on! Weed has permeated our MCPS high school. It's everywhere, all the time. It would be nice to have the option for a weed-free dorm in college. |
Not all kids. Mine does not drink or smoke weed and he absolutely hates the culture. If he were religious he might have an easier time, but I can assure you there are some kids out there who do not get intoxicated. |
exactly have heard horror stories about some substance free floors that they are in fact the worst offenders because they are often kids who have a problem and are put there. |

How are kids able to keep up their academics stoned/high, specially those doing it daily?
I know there is drinking but then you sober up and get ready for the next day. How do kids function in real life high? |
Most aren't doing it daily--or they time it after studying. Or for some kids with ADHD, they find a small amount of weed helps them focus. People who have a problem with it that interferes with academics don't last. |
In the afternoon I would. Most public drinking is illegal. |
My daughter was the same. Had her first drink at 21. Now ever will tell me what a fool I am. But this is what she chose. (Her only complaint freshmen year was that it was hard to find other non-drinkers.) |
I think privileged kids abuse drugs earlier and more widely. |
DP: There are some kids who do not, but perhaps not as many as there are parents who think their kids do not. I think of my kid as a moderate partaker by what he tells us--and this seems okay and is supported by the fact that he's doing good in school, keeps a part-time job and other extracurriculars, and is up to go to the gym weekend mornings (he usually calls us on his walk home from the gym). But he has just let me know he has some concerns about the intake of another kid who is the child of friends of ours who are 100% convinced their kid would never do anything. |
No answer but I do wonder as well... |
