Cannabis use on campus?

Anonymous
I have done a few tours with DD recently and was stunned by the prevalence of cannabis use, sometimes out in the open. How widely used is it these days? Are some students using it daily? I am a bit shocked.

Serious question: are you Amish? Have you been on a campus in the last 50 years?

DC says everyone, literally everyone smokes weed now. And that’s the bare minimum that they will try/do. Your kid will too, you just won’t know.

It’s definitely more prevalent now than in my day.

Antidotally recently read something on DCs university parents facebook page about someone’s child having a roommate who smoked weed. The parent was upset because her child’s clothes reeked of weed and the kid wasn’t able to maintain his internship because the clothes smelled so much. It’s a real problem much more so today than in my day

You really have to ask if some students are using it daily?

Another great societal choice.

Do you think that will influence their education and driving?

Glad I won’t be around in 50 years.

It is much worse in the West.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Unless your DD is looking at BYU, weed will be a common theme at virtually any college these days. It’s like the entire higher education system has turned into Wesleyan.

OP -- where do you live that you aren't surrounded by weed? In the DC area, the smell of weed is everywhere--walking down the street, at the mall, in the grocery store, at the library, etc. Why would you expect any less on a college campus? I went to college before weed was legal and was surrounded by weed, so, yes, I think there's even easier access to weed in college now that it's legal/decriminalized in a majority of states.

Probably less than when you were in college, to be honest. There’s more variety in entertainment these days.

Safer than drinking to excess.

It’s prohibited on any campus that accepts federal funding.

So all of them except Hillsdale.

My DD called campus police on her randomly assigned suitemates due to weed. They were covering the smoke detectors with plastic bags, too.

Please explain. Dying of alcohol poisoning exists. It's impossible to die from cannabis.
