You seem confused. It is and always will be illegal to drive while impaired. You are trying to create a bogeyman in order to persecute cannabis users since there is no objectively good reason to do so. You ate trying to scare people with hypotheticals. BTW alcohol is legal so not sure what your point is. |
Like sex, right? Sex can be a habit that diminishes quality of life so then we should outlaw sex. Or Krispy Cream donuts. Those actually kill people and have no use other than “feeling good” so you would have that criminalized as well? Or maybe you are selectively biased against cannabis use? |

I could just as easily make a clumsy parody of your position. I guess we should legalize everything then? Fentanyl lollipops for kids?
The reality is that society negotiates within itself to set boundaries. There are always trade offs. I happen to think that psychoactive substances do more harm than good to most people, in proportion to the strength of their effect. Donuts and see aren’t logical comparisons. Alcohol tobacco and caffeine are. |
Well since nobody has ever proposed Fentanyl lollipops for kids you are not engaging in a good faith discussion. This is basically the entire thread. Unsubstantiated fear propaganda without basis in fact. Why would you have to misrepresent my opinion in order to make your own point? Shouldn’t you have strong enough justification without resorting to such tactics? |
do you believe all psychoactive drugs should be legal, or if not, what restrictions do you think are appropriate? |
Yes they should be. There should be licensed injection clinics for addiction treatment along with harm mitigation. If we spent as much money on research and harm mitigation as we do on the ineffective war on drugs we would have less addiction and death overall. The data bears this out. The only thing standing in the way of saving lives and making a better society for everyone are all of the people in this thread who demonstrate such a shameful lack of understanding or consistent logic. The fact is that if locking people up and criminalizing drug use was an effective solution then we would ‘t be experiencing an overdose epidemic right now. This is irrefutable since harsh penalties have been in effect for generations. Where are the results? Time to try a different and more thoughtful approach. |

I’d like to see smoking of any kind outlawed in public everywhere. Smoke is a nuisance.
Also smoking cannibis while driving should be as illegal as drinking and driving. That is common sense. Totally for legal medical use and against prison time for recreational use. In your private home do what you want. Just don’t drive impaired. |
we're pretty far apart then - so I won't try to convince you I don't think we'll ever adopt the Singapore model (and probably shouldn't) but I am for as much friction as possible in every way - including locking up people from McKinsey and the Pharma industry for the opioid epidemic - for a very long time, in Federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison |
I think perhaps we are just locking up too many of the wrong people, and should instead go for huge penalties against the suppliers |
