How is a top 20 high school mediocre? |
That's just what she has to tell herself to justify the amount of money she spent on buying into the "top 3" pyramid. She would be horrified to think that the parent at the #1 public high school is fuming about how PP's kid gets an advantage through grade inflation at her inferior high school. And the private parents disdain them all. 'round and 'round it goes. |
| Cry me a river OP and you cannot "out poor" me. Life is not fair...get over it. |
BS It depends greatly on the classes one is taking and the teacher they have. At any HS. |
You’re the one who seems to be crying unfairness. |
You seem pretty deluded, given that flimsy argument. Was it intentional or casual--you can't even keep your argument straight. I highly doubt the latter because you can't stand that I'm casting aspersions on your thread and this one. Anyone who reads this forum would understand that throwing out such a caustic (but "casual" she protests!) post titles is troll-ish behavior. Still SMDH. |
| To me the issue isn’t admissions. Whatever. All the Ivy hypesters are missing what’s going on in reality. Those schools have lost their edge. But that isn’t the point. THE issue is the fact my kids, after having the best thrown at them in high school are going to absolutely thrive at whatever college they go to. They are prepared so well that that isn’t fair. I would pay a bit more for college to provide kids who have not had those advantages with some extra help. |
Are you aware of a more recent study with that finding? https://www.edweek.org/teaching-learning/grade-inflation-is-greater-in-wealthier-schools-study-says/2017/08 |
Do you want to go through the teen and adult sections on this forum and look at all the posts about these thriving kids crumbling when faced with adversity? |
Was the post intended to provoke discussion and put state school grads on the defensive with respect to the quality of instruction and degree of personal attention they received? Yes. Did it work? Yes. Am I a troll? That is a question for the great white male in the sky. |
Every time you respond you prove my original point: idiots are accepted into ivies every day and despite that wonderful "quality of instruction and degree of personal attention they receive," they are no smarter when they graduate said bastion of superior education. You are example A of your own inane thread, which I expressed on that one, and I'm clearly hitting a nerve. |
+1 They're just mad that they can't buy their way into whatever they want. That's not an actual disadvantage. People live in the most ridiculous bubbles of entitlement, and their need to denigrate anyone who got something they want is sad. |
| I agree, OP. Which is why I don’t have a problem with a slight edge going to 1st Gen students, especially when they’re excellent students. |
Philly isn't the rust belt though. |
DP. I agree with the PP and would add that the most off-putting aspect of your ridiculous thread was not just your poor grammar but your utterly boorish attitude. You come across as a complete a$$hole and your passive-aggressive act (“Oh, I was just using hyperbole to make my point! Why are you so offended?!”) only emphasizes what a jerk you are. |
