| I hear you, OP! My aunt and uncle had one. Or maybe it was my parents? I don't remember. Maybe it was my parents. All I remember is that it somehow got a hole in it with all the kids around. That really sucked. |

I grew up in the mid-70’s/early-80’s when waterbeds were cool & I always wanted one too.
My parents were strictly opposed to me getting one because the risk of a flood! My best friend had one + I got to sleep on it every time I spent the night at her house. I live in a 2nd floor apartment home but if I owned my own SFH, I would love to get one! 😁 |

| If the heater goes out on a waterbed and the bed becomes cold, it can cause the person sleeping in it to get hypothermia and theoretically they could die. |

| My jr high bff was the only one in her family who didn’t have one! Her big brother, little sister, and her parents all had a waterbed, but my friend didn’t want one! I remember being bummed out that she didn’t have one because I had never slept on one and would have liked to! I once sat on her parents’ queen -sized one though and it was very still, seemed more like a mushy beanbag chair filled with thick mud instead of sloshy water. It was called a “wave control” waterbed since it didn’t have much motion to it. |

| My parents randomly got me one when I was like 7. They bought one and I wonder if they got a second one at a discount. I think I stopped learning how to keep myself warm at night because of it. 😂 |

Why did waterbeds go out of style? For a young person they were AMAZING. My "cool uncle" bought them for his family, and we loved going there for holidays and bouncing on the beds. Then, in my misspent college years, I regularly used to pass out on a friend's water bed--I still remember how the gentle swaying felt when I was drunk and a little lightheaded--like being on a boat.
